Maybe Arturo Gotti's wife will escape and strangle her?

On a serious note it is ironic that she will replace a judge that was labeled as a far right wing conservative by the twin geniuses from Mass, Ted Kennedy and John Kerry who voted against Souter's confirmation. Of course leftist organizations such as Now and NAACP also heavily campaigned against Souter who turned out to be a liberal. I'm sure no one will mistake Sotomayor as a conservative.

Considering that people usually get more conservative when they get older, it's amazing that we keep getting judges on the Supreme Court that turn into liberals as they get older. It happened with Souter, Stevens, and Warren.

I just wish I could bring the wisdom of a Latina woman to my handicapping.

warren was just an example of bad vetting by eisehower. his supreme court record was in line with almost everything else in his prior political career. republicans weren't always uniformly intolerant lock step christian soldiers. there used to be room for all kinds in the g.o.p.

ancient history now.

i'm surprised kennedy wasn't mentioned in your list. he was a real surprise. even to me. i guess travel really does broaden perspective.

Isn't Kennedy more "middle of the road"? He often sides with the 5-4 conservative majority.

Sotomayor loved to refer to herself as a "wise woman" and a "wise latina". It wasn't in just the one speech. She said it repeatedly in numerous speeches over the years.

The good news about Sotomayor is that she was a prosecutor at one time and she was considered a tough prosecutor. They say that her experience as a prosecutor made her somewhat of a "law and order" type judge. She was often sympathetic to police when it came to allowing evidence to be admissable that was obtained in questionable searches.

Many people don't remember that she was originally appointed by President George H.W. Bush.

He might be shocked when he finds out she's quite a bit to the right of him.
