This has to be the most desperate cry I have heard yet.

Forgive me if this was posted over the holiday weekend.

The Preakness is far from the derby in prestige. The derby is a Stallion maker.

Yeah, but that was the Preakness. You win the Derby, the nonracing media is interested in you. You win the Preakness, the nonracing media could care less about you - unless you happen to be shooting for a Triple Crown. If the purse money is what really matters concerning the Derby, then Churchill would not have been able to put off raising the Derby purse to over $1 million until 1996.

I doubt that Diaz would have skipped the Derby with Spend a Buck if that crook Robert Brennan had moved the Jersey Derby to the first Saturday in May and offered the bonus to the owner of any horse that won the Cherry Hill Mile, Garden State Stakes, Jersey Derby, and Preakness.

I didn't say that it was the same but it isnt that far fetched.

The KY Derby is the Holy Grail..It in many ways is what the sport revolves around. certainly what drives the select sales.

To become a stallion, not be so narrow on a specific race. I can guarantee a guy like that isn't buying a yearling and thinking "This horse will win the Derby"

You can win many other races to become a stallion. And comparing those owners to the other 99% of owners is pretty unrealistic also

With his current resume that horse is gonna have to knock up about 600 ho's to recover the purchase price.

minutes ago at charlestown...

...in the 8th race Brandon Whitacre rode #10, Become My Hero to victory. The odds were 7-1 against him but Hero fought hard to win. The jockey put him in the winners circle and the connections gathered around for the winner's photo.

They were high fiving, smiling and shaking hands. Brandon's fist pumped in the air at least three times as he grinned ear to ear.

They take the picture and Whitacre bends down and gives his mount a big kiss on the neck. However they are not done as another picture is requested. After the flash he jumps down, removes his tack and starts to walk away. He stops, turns back one more time and gives his friend one more pat on the back for his hard work.

This wasn't a big race featuring great horses. It was a 15k claimer. That was a great moment. I like that. Kudos to you Mr. Whitacre.
