TVG Fantasy Contest
 

Does anyone have any word if and when the TVG Fantasy contest will start back up leading to the 2009 Breeders Cup?

This is the best on-line horse racing fantasy contest I have seen (they NYRA contest was discontinued a few years ago). Some of you on the board (Drugs) have won prizes in this contest. If TVG no longer has funding for this contest, I would welcome if they made it pay-to-play rather than not having it at all.

Churchill Downs did an on-line Road to the Breeders Cup fantasy contest last year but I have not seen anything for this year.

I've been in contact with them and they are still going to do one, just not sure when.

Wonder if there is any chance this contest will start back up on the opening day of Santa Anita's winter meeting as it has the past 2 years?

Doesn't look good. They keep doing these piddily little contests that are boring and require almost pure luck to win.

You could email them though to see what's up.

I sent a personal message to the administrator on the TVG Community Forum -- he replied and was going to find out about whether this contest will ever start back up and let me know. But I agree that it is very doubtful that it will start up with the opening of the Santa Anita winter meet. They could save some money by investing in the fantasy contest with a longer duration than the contests they have been running which only last for a weekend.

Please let me know what they say, if they ever answer you.

It's dead dude.

May not be dead yet. One of the administrators of the TVG Community forum indicated if there was demand for the contest, TVG would look into running it again. Then she asks those reading the thread (called TVG Fantasy Racing) if they want TVG to run the contest again -- almost like a petition. I posted on the thread stating what a great contest this was and asking them to bring it back -- I encourage others here to do the same.

I'm not a member of their forums.

The TVG fantasy contest was without a doubt the most fun and addictive contest ever created by anyone.

I've been going through withdrawls like a fiend ever since it stopped.

I couldn't believe TVG did away with it ... but ... if you think about it .. it had to be quite a bit of work for them to update it and run it. And while it was a great tool for a newbie to learn the game, it took a little too much skill and strategy for someone brand new with horse racing to compete for the grand prize.

But, even though newbies I know who played it couldn't fairly compete with seasoned horse racing fans and bettors .. they still loved it anyway and had fun trying to beat their friends. I know more than a few people who were fantasy baseball geeks and new to horse racing who enjoyed it and they've become more dedicated fans over that time.

I obviously agree with everyone who says that the contest is way better and more fun than the Road to the Roses one that Churchill Downs does. It's not even close. Bring it back!

Why did they kill it in the first place?

Too many people from three states dominating it?

Per the below TVG Community link, there is some more serious talk about bringing back this contest for 3-year olds with a proposed March 6 start date. However, it may be play for fun or for a nominal prize pool since TVG may not have the budget for a large prize.
