Imus fired why not Letterman

Imus got booted over his remarks about the women's rutgers team. He apoligized , was fired , and went to meet with the team in person to apoligize again knowing he wasn't getting his job back.

Letterman still has his gig , has apoligized , most likely won't be going to Alaska to meet the palin girls in person to apoligize

does he deserve the same fate as Imus or is his simple apology eneough to save his job? how do the women here feel about this? why should one guy get the ax and the other one get to keep his job?

So you think calling women nappy headed hoes and jiggaboos is on par with a joke about an 18 year old who did get knocked up, being knocked up?

EDIT: And I'm not sure Imus should have been fired either..

Danzig 06-16-2009 07:35 AM

i don't think he should be fired. and you may want to read this:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/31381282...shington_post/

i found it interesting. why the uproar now? and palin trying to turn this into an attack on young girls, as tho letterman was actually suggesting raping 14 year old girls-how ridiculous.

absolutely not.

perhaps palin should have spent more time with her daughters and less time on her political career, then they wouldn't be fodder for jokes right now.

it doesn't matter what i think , my post was more directed at the women here

aren't both "jokes" a slap at women in general , don't both joke undermine women everywhere? why should 1 guy get a pass and another get fired?

I'm sure there are TONS of women who would love to be knocked up by A-roid during the 7th inning of a Yankee's game.

Palin should either challenge Letterman to a steel cage death match or STFU.

Danzig 06-16-2009 07:43 AM

i'm with bob on that as well, i don't think imus should have been fired.

see - i can respect your opinon - you are a woman , so if you don't feel both comments are a slap at women everywhere , then unless one of the other girls are around , the thread is over

doesn't matter what bob or i think

The thing is, even if Palin paid them no attention, why should there be jokes made about them at all? Is the media so outrageously obnoxious that now children are fair game too?

Letterman may have been referring to Palin's 18 YO daughter but he knew it was her 14 YO daughter that was with her because he had just joked about it. He shouldn't be fired but he should stay away from jokes that involve people's children. Isn't that reasonable?

He realizes this. He issued a detailed apology on his show. I think this should do it:

Bob is entitled to his own opinion as are you.

The joke was in poor taste but not even in the same zip code as the imus comments which were racially crude as well.

Palin sensationalizing this for political gain is pretty sick in my opinion. The joke was about the daughter that had a baby. Did she ever get married by the way?

LOL... I rarely have the same opinion of other women.. I'm kind of a dude mentally. I would take my opinion as a grain of salt.

But I didnt care about the Imus comment or the Letterman comment. Both were in poor taste, and if the people who were referenced wanted an apology, they should get one... which they did.

But neither guy should have been fired for it. What about that first amendment that allows people to bash gays on tv and the radio all the time? But thats not a big deal because gays ruin the moral fabric of America, or whatever the hell that means.

no i think she dumped the guy

timmgirvan 06-16-2009 08:26 AM

Letterman hasn't been funny in a long while, and neither he or Imus should have been fired

i personally wouldn't go after her family...but it's a tricky situation. you have pols who put their kids out there to begin with, which i also wouldn't engage in. also, it's not as tho palin is the first to deal with her kids getting attention, unwanted or not. i don't think it's right, but it certainly is part and parcel with the job.
and he's not the first, or the only-like the article above said, these jokes have been around since she was first named mccains running mate-so why is she up in arms now? a ploy to get her attention perhaps?

Perhaps not.......the woman deals with a perceieved threat/slight.....just as Al
and Jesse or Frank deal with perception! It was something....but still much-ado
