There's going to be a Disney movie based on Secretariat?

That sounds kind of cool. Good exposure for horse racing if its turned into a Disney movie

Disney=crap.
Disney movies=crap.

Unless, of course, you like the feel good endings that are appealing to five year olds.

Though the Disney episode of South Park a few months ago, with the Jonas Brothers, that was awesome!

Screw Disney!!!! we get to watch horses breaking down w/a peta message at the end?

Most movies are crap with feel-good endings. Look at the Rocky series. I just find it hard to believe that Philadelphia actually has a Rocky statue.

Zac Efron is set to play Ron Turcotte.

Indian Charlie 06-15-2009 01:24 AM

Dixie Doodle is set to play either Onion or Angle Light. His owner wants him to portray Onion.

I like Diane Lane though. :D

skippy3481 06-15-2009 09:19 AM

That southpark episode was in instant classic. Mickey was a true bad ass

To make it more dramatic, they will probably have Secretariat come from like 20 back to get Twice a Prince at the wire (ala Seabiscuit another true life scenario  )

Agreed. Horse racing can't get too much good general public exposure.

Instead, Chenery settled on a more recent film, Unfaithful, a gift from the guy who gave us Flashdance and Fatal Attraction.

“It's not a good movie," Chenery said. "But she was great in it. There was an awful lot of skin showing. I think Diane's very brave."
What's the matter with her? How could she not appreciate the sextoy Oliver-what's-his-name in Unfaithful? That man was so hot I forgot his last name.

I'll go see it, but unless Diane Lane is naked in this one, too, fat chance the ball-and-chain will go with me.

In all seriousness, I'll be interested to see what they do with the film. Dramatically speaking, it's not necessarily the most interesting story (I don't mean it's not interesting in real life, just from a dramatic structure standpoint). Hmm... maybe they'll have to have Diane Lane be naked in this one after all. If so, I'm sure the ball-and-chain will be first in line. ;)

Maybe they can create some drama from the Preakness time controversy.

Better yet, and this is a side issue, there is always the involvement of Claiborne Farm and Seth and Arthur Hancock. The syndication of Secretariat would have been a big move for anyone, much less the young Seth Hancock, who had not been in charge for very long. After Sunday Silence won the Derby, Arthur Hancock supposedly said that Ogden Phipps had taken away his dream of running Claiborne, so now he had taken away Phipps' dream of winning the Derby.

Pedigree Ann 06-16-2009 11:54 AM

They may focus somewhat on Penny C's dad, Christopher Chenery, who had bred many outstanding horses, including champions, but hadn't bred/owned a Kentucky Derby winner. How they did a 2-year foal-share with Claiborne in order to breed to Bold Ruler; Claiborne won the coin toss and got the first foal, an unplaced filly named The Bride, and the Cheneries got the second foal, Secretariat. Then Dad dies; family worried they will have to sell the farm to pay the estate taxes, or sell their most valuable asset, Secretariat. Claiborne steps in and sets up the syndicate so that Big Red can still run in the old man's colors. Then, tear-jerking time, Secretariat wins the Triple Crown, was the great horse that the old man had always tried to breed and he didn't live to see triumph. Penny chokes up, accepting the Eclipse awards in her father's memory. Cue sloppy Tchaikovsky-type music.

Has anybody read the book on Secretariat that focuses on Eddie Sweat?
