Um...given the way he was treated, I don't really blame him.

The Good Ole' Boy network can push anything under the rug for so long until it comes full circle.

The Nascar guy has a great claim. But I can guarantee you Jesse Jackson will be shaking down the horse business in a year or two. He just has to find his black jockey that can't get mounts and then the lawsuits will fly.

I'll have to do some research to find the names, but there have been some terrific African-American jockeys, especially in the early 20th century.
There have been some great Irish-American ones too, and also some Italian-American ones. Currently, the Hispanic-American jockeys are dominant.

It's really not an "ethnic thing" when it comes to riding a horse. Just the best riders find the finish line. Horses don't see colors...and neither should we.

btw, the guy that has an issue with NASCAR has been treated unfairly.
Maybe he should have run a few cars filled with "white lightning" on the back hill roads.

5 years this guy was waiting for a job that never came ?

Downthestretch55 08-09-2006 04:35 PM

Sumitas,
I don't know any more than I read in the article.
If that was promised to him, it will be part of "discovery".
The courts will decide.

ps...Give me a call if you want to come out to the farm and have a look at the horses. Or pm me with your e-mail and I'll send you some pictures.

hey bling bling can def ride up at the moutian. I'd love to see him get some quality mounts at a big track.

Downthestretch55 08-10-2006 09:55 AM

A little that I found out..
Of the first 28 KY Derbies, 15 winners were ridden by African-American jockeys. The first winner, Arisides had Oliver Lewis aboard.
Isaac Murphy rode three KD winners.
Other greats include Ed Brown, Alonzo Clayton, James Perkins, Willie Simms,
and the terrific rider, Jimmy Winkfield.
