Gomez to move back to Southern California
By Steve Andersen

http://www.drf.com/news/article/103938.html

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Garrett Gomez, who was honored with the Eclipse Award as the nation's leading rider in 2007 and 2008, is returning to Southern California on a full-time basis on June 7, according to his agent, Ron Anderson.

Gomez, who is currently riding in New York, wants to spend more time with his wife and two children, who live in Southern California year-round, Anderson said.

Gomez rode at Santa Anita until the first weekend of April, when he relocated to Keeneland. He has ridden in Kentucky and New York since then, except for the occasional stakes mount in California.

The guy misses his family, or do you not believe that? What's the big deal, he will fly in from Del Mar for the big races anyway.

and that's why i originally posted he would spend the majority of his time in so cal , but , no one believed me then when we were discussing dunkirk but someone who i talk too knew all along he wouldn't be full time NY

it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but most of the time i admit i am wrong and get slammed - this one i had pegged better than the nyra press machine

Gomez is a good dirt rider for the most but he moves way up on synthetics with his sit still and wait and then busy beaver approach. Good to have a good rider back out west again besides Bejarano so that non Jockey bettors can get more even odds on horses they actually want to bet on.

As Jim Belushi says to Demi Moore's wiseass friend in 'About Last Night":

"If you didn't have a ***** you wouldn't be of use to anyone".

We can port that over to Gomez: If he wasn't a strong finisher, there wouldn't be much use for him, 'cause the rest of his game sucks.

After blowing 2 G1 races on Ventura, and sleepwalking for the past few months, GG finally turned in a noteworthy ride yesterday when he drafted with Belle Allure to nullify the significant pace advantage of Encanto Park. How ****in ironic.

Back where he belongs: beating up on a bunch of nothings (other than Bejarano).

On the plus side: all those horses that Rosario now fails to bring home (with his can't keep 'em straight in the lane BS) will start winning again.

Personally I prefer the line Fender says(The Bad a$s bad guy in the movie Cyborg)

'scientists were working on a cure that would end the plague and restore the world. Restore it? Why? I like the death! I like the misery!'

Anyway the point was if you liked anything Bejarano was riding chances were you couldn't bet the horse he was on due to people piggy backing anything he was on regardless if the horse was good or not...Now atleast there's a better chance to wager fairly out there with Gomez taking his share of the popularity contest. ;)

Never thought I'd say this, but I think Mike Smith has been riding pretty well recently.

You think the jock colony in CA is worse that NY?

the_fat_man 05-22-2009 10:42 AM

Dominguez, Maragh, Garcia, Coa, Velazquez, Velasquez, Castellano, Prado

versus

Gomez, Bejarano, Talamo, Rosario, Solis, the Bazes, the rest are too bad to mention

you do the math

New York, presently, has about as good a jock colony as you'd want

I wonder when people will start mentioning Lezcano when a top list is mentioned, he does more with less thus far this meet or from atleast what I have noticed.

not a huge fan of C. Valasquez or Catellano, and not sure Edgar could ride a bike these days... I'd probably prefer the CA bunch, but I see your point and can't really argue with you.

Saratoga.

Why do we call groups of jocks "colonies"? Is it because they are small like bees?

Total guess but maybe they didn't used to be paid well enough that they lived on the track in the dorms with the grooms.
