NFL Draft

Saturday at 4, of course ESPN coverage. What team do you follow? What are their position needs? Players you'd like to see them take, and or not like to see them take?
If the Redskins do trade up, and for some reason do not get QB Mark Sanchez I would love to see them get one of those big OL's. Chris Samuels (as all pro great as he's been), is coming off surgery. We need to start building that line back up with some depth. We could use more help on the defensive line as well, Philip Daniels has been resigned, but he's also trying to come back from injury. I won't complain if they make the move up and get Sanchez, but I feel like other needs are their to be filled.

Another thing, what happened to starting at 12 noon? What did they change that for, prime time ratings? I think they need to change that back, IMO.

I think the best player in this draft was Hakeem Nicks, the receiver from UNC that went to the Giants at #29. I love that guy.

Nicks was the guy who tweaked his hammy in the offseason and packed on some pounds, right? Seems like the logical guy to take Burress' spot, same strengths.

Two stellar drafts from the teams atop the NFC East. Looks like they will be there for years to come.

There wasnt a move made this whole offseason by the Birds that I didnt absolutely LOVE. They continue to put themselves in great shape for next years draft. What looks to be a 2nd round pick for Lito from the Jets, and Seattle's 3rd round pick next year. (An awesome move by them this year by trading out of 3rd round, as they still got the TE they coveted in Ingram from FLA in the 5th). I'm eager to see how defenses are going to match up with some of these formations.

I'm a fellow Eagles fan, grew up my first 28 years in PA - what do you think of the way Sheldon Brown is acting? His most recent comment:

The acquisition of Hobbs pleased Brown, but only because he hoped it could lead to his departure from Philadelphia.

"I think it's great," Brown told The Associated Press. "I look at it as great news in terms of me being traded."
He was going to be my fav player this year on D with Dawk gone, not anymore

Sheldon can kiss my ass. The Eagles gave him a great contract that made him set for life.. The Eagles are going to be SICK this year and he wants to be a cry baby. He must not be very smart or he'd realize the only player who can whine on the birds and actually get what he wants is McNabb... all other whiners are just ignored (TO, Lito).

Sheldon is slightly above average as a corner and is replacable. I thought he was going to have a very good career, but wasnt too impressed last year... some WR's can just blow right by him.

I would love the Eagles to trade him to a team like Oakland, Detroit, or Cinci.

While I dont think Hobbs should be a starter on this team, he adds to the depth and we will be just fine at that position with or without Sheldon.

I say, let him prove it this year that he's worth more coin. I think I read somewhere that he was the 33rd highest paid corner in the league. Sounds about right for a 2nd-3rd corner. He would be committing contractual suicide if he were to let this interfere with his play and develop as a locker room cancer. No team would want a player like that, esp. one asking for more bread.

He says he got the idea of complaining from the Eagles website or something to that effect. He says that he never even thought about it until it was brought to his attention. The fact is that he has 4, yes 4, more years on his current deal and already wants it re-worked. Good luck to him trying to pry more money from this franchise.

He's lucky to have been in this scheme for this long. If he were to go to a team that is lackadaisical with the blitz, he'd be getting toasted left and right. He simply isnt a cover corner. He can lay down some huge hits here and there and is a sure tackler, but he thrives on our front 7 getting bigtime pressure and forcing the QB to get rid of the ball quickly. FFS, there was discussion of moving him to safety so that he doesnt have to cover as much and can just roam around and lay people out, ala Dawkins.

I applaud the Eagles for standing ground and denouncing his request. They keep saying that he isn't being shopped, which may or may not be true, but I'm sure they'll be listening to every offer. (See Boldin as an example of a team losing trade value on a player once it's known that he's on the market) If its more money he seeks, he'll come out to play this year and showcase to other teams that he's worth the restructured deal. If not, he pulls a Lito and is an unhappy camper this year until we ship him. I can see packaging him and Reggie Brown up in a move, but this team has NO needs, so Im not sure what they'd ask for in return.

Great move by the FO in grabbing insurance in the way of Ellis Hobbs for two 5th round picks. There was a good chance that the guys we drafted with those picks wouldnt even have made this team, so to get a top notch return man and an adequate starting corner is a steal. Can't have too many good players at camp and am already foaming at the mouth getting ready for the training camp battles. This team is in PHENOMENAL position both on and off the field.

I dont know about the best, but he is damn good.
The Giants were looking for his type.

Crabtree and Maclin were obviously not available.
Even if they were, I think the Giants would wish both
were more physical receivers like Nicks. (ala Pexiglass)

Imo Crabtree is lots better than Maclin. Nicks is very good.
He did not get to strut his stuff in college quite like the first two.

Spare us the superlatives, declansharbor

Reid-McNabb are now heading into their eleventh season in Philly ... and still ZERO rings to show for it.

Meanwhile, the small-market team (a team which I despise, btw) on the other side of the state is going for number seven, no less.

Being competitive year in and year out ... or this preseason buzz created by a couple decent draft picks ain't good enough anymore.

Reid-McNabb need to take care of business SOON or get the hell outta Dodge.

REAL Birds fans want to see a bunch of drunken fat guys marching down Broad St in the middle of Feb ... and will settle for nothing less.

That's the ONLY "phenomenal" thing that can happen, in my estimation.

As a girl who bleeds Eagle Green... I 100% agree. time for them to accomplish REAL results... and they have to tools to do it... hopefully even McNabb cant screw this up!!

Stop saying he's fast. He's not. He has completely average speed, and that was before he gained 14 pounds after the combine. He's a decent possession receiver. That's it. I'd be shocked if he ever caught 1,000 yards. I don't care how many footballs he pulls out of his taint in bowl games.

*yawns*

You bring up McNabb like he didn't put this phucking team in position to win the NFCCG last year. Let's give Andy and 5 the brunt of the blame when it CLEARLY was Jim Johnson getting outcoached by Todd Haley in the first half that cost us a shot at Pittsburgh.

Eagle fan or not Booth, you are clueless and I dont like you.

Real quick, name me another QB that would have gotten to so many Conference Title games with the wideouts that Don had to work with for the majority of his career.

I'm sorry... but I think our lack of wideouts was overrated. Our defense got us to many conference championship games and Westbrook was as big of a reason as McNabb.

Also Feeley and Garcia are two QB's I can name that got us to big games.

Slow down Sally. :D

Feeley came in for an injured McNabb back in 2002, did an adequate job, and won 4 of 5 games to allow us to slip into the playoffs. However, I'm pretty sure that his next playoff win, will be his first.

Garcia came in for an injured McNabb back in '06. EVERYONE wrote the season off after that. I believe we went on a 5 game win streak with him under center. We made the playoffs and won the first game against the G Men, a game in which he threw for a whopping 150 something yards. Next up was NO and we lost by 3.

It's not like either guy 'took care of business', as Booth says, and took us to the NFCCG.

and lets not forget that Andy pretty much dialed the playbook down and changed our pass-first philosophy to help these two guys. They practically took out half of the playbook and instituted a run game, something that Don would have greatly benefited from.

Well Don's never took care of business either.. We still dont have any rings.

I do agree that Reid deserves half the blame too because of his lack of wanting to run the ball..

We can get into this like Dala and I did last year... but until we win the Superbowl every year is a dissapointment for me. That is just how I view success.

And the Eagles were every bit as good and maybe even more efficient when Garcia and Feeley were under center, but I'll give you that had something to do with the run... but it also had to do with the effectiveness of the QB's. They are both more accurate passers than McNabb... tho McNabb has a stronger arm and more game changing ability.

I dont hate McNabb.. I just am not going to give him the credit everyone thinks he deserves until he gets a ring... that is ALL that matters in this game.

If he wins a ring... I may even get tattoo of his face on my arm or something (JK) cause he'll be my hero forever.

Eagles are a MUCH better team when they run the ball 60% of the game. maybe this year Reid will understand finally.

Smooth Operator 04-28-2009 12:56 PM

Couldn't care less if you don't like me, declansharbor.

Not surprising, though, to see that you're still making excuses for Fat Andy and McNabb.

Really hate to diss a fellow Birds fan ... but you CLEARLY don't have the mentality of a winner...
