I actually prefer same colored saddle cloths for Grade 1 stake races.

I know people say it's harder to follow the horses .. but I follow them by silks.

Not that it's a big deal to me if they do change to different colored saddle clothes.

You and Richard Grunder are two peas in a pod

Rudeboyelvis 04-08-2009 09:25 PM

Actually he doesn't follow the silks either.

They asked FOUR questions to people that were 'fans' of their Facebook page

1) Would you bet a Classic/Classic Daily Double?
2) Would you prefer colored saddle cloths?
3) Do you think the BC should also be held overseas?
4) Did you bet the Ultra P6 last year?

All my answers were yes.

For races like the Classic, it doesn't matter cause all of us on this board recognize our favorite horses.

For races like the Juvenile, it might be helpful

other than yelling "go rusty!" randomly during greyhound races, shouting "i had the one in the purple!" after every bc race is my favorite.

Do you have x-ray vision that allowed you to see the silks through the mud at Monmouth?

The Indomitable DrugS 04-09-2009 04:48 AM

No need.

Deep closing winners might have the front dirty:

But the back in normally clean:

It's the purple saddle clothes that make them so pretty.

Start using all different colors and you wind up with a race that looks like the third at Emerald Downs on a tuesday.

From my awesome seats  , unless they were on the lead the whole way, they all looked brown with purple saddle cloths until they were well past me and then I could see their colorful backs.

With exotics and the like, most people are typically wagering on multiple horses in a race. Putting that aside, even if I haven't wagered on a horse that might be in contention or making a move, it's far easier to pick up the horse's saddle cloth than to refer back to the DRF description of the horse's silks to figure out who it is.

And it was even worse if you bought one of those ear radios and were certain Maryfield was getting the lead but hadn't gotten a call from the announcer.

I was in the grandstand with binoculars and couldn't tell much regarding silks, although I did know that it was that big SOB Midnight Lute coming down the middle.
