3/26: Aqueduct ($30k C/0)
Wednesday's beat in the $960 P4 (.50) was especially galling given that Gulfstream seems to allow scratches at any point in the day, and continues to fail to inform the public of them on a timely basis. Many of us cannot check the scratch board multiple times between 10am-2pm, and nor should we have to. Yesterday, and many times recently, several runners have been late additions to the scratch list, and the changes impact players significantly. I received an Email from one distraught wagerer who would have used 9th race winner Murch had he known Wood Be Willing had been scratched, and would have cashed the quad.
I'll be honest and say I'm not sure the serially unreliable Murch was going to find his way on my ticket under any scenario, but it is frustrating beyond description to discover changes in the card long after 'final' decisions are made. The only reason late scratches are typically allowed by a racing office is on days where there have been races taken off the turf and in emergency situations where horses have taken ill. Gulfstream, which certainly has its' problems, has managed to create a new way to irk horseplayers this year with the inconsistent management of their changes. The good news on the day Wednesday was the nightcap hit of Best Value tab Valid Meadow ($21.80; $10.40; $5.80) and third choice Trust N Vegas ($17.20; $12.60) for the $171.00 exacta ($1). Trust N Vegas was the Bill White firster who showed no works and was screaming 'Bet Me". Earlier, Turning South helped boost a $60 tri under Fawkes' Yes I Am American in the 7th. It was a good day that had potential to be great, and I was pleased to hear from 'Bill in Detroit' who slipped into a Michigan OTB to bet the nightcap and walked out $500 richer... Hope you did OK too! Aqueduct has a $30k carryover, and I had already looked at the P4 anyway. Approachable series, but the 4th and 5th are 'cheap' races which have been producing some kooky results lately. Edashor was actually sort of still a Trips&Traps horse....as they stretched him out in his subsequent start. Just Dixie? Who knows. All I know, is if the 3rd race had been run in any kind of fair manner, we would have made a lot of money. |
