There was a colt paddock schooling right before KNS race today, and boy, he has to be here for the Lane's End, VERY impressive looking, wish I knew who he was ... thin face stripe? Very dark bay/brown? Square, muscular?

slotdirt 03-18-2009 05:11 PM

That Lane's End looks like a pretty nice turf race.

i agree, the "poly" horses don't get my money until one at least hits the board in the derby. monba, dominican and the rest just didn't perform after the transfer. colonel john ran just ok. i love how people still don't get it. the figs, the current form and the performances just don't transfer. its like apples to oranges. look at i want revenge this year, they were calling him slow, until he hit the dirt runnning. the races in keenland are ridiculous because the "real " contenders are basically using it for training purposes (street sense) where they usually get beat by inferior "poly" horses. handicapping now is even harder because theres 3 surfaces, synthetic, dirt , turf. not a fan of the new surface, horses are getting hurt and many trainers say its worse not better. horses have run on dirt and grass for longer than they've been tamed. some men have enough ego to try to improve on mother nature, ain't happening.

Jack Spratt could hit the board here. I have no idea what his Ml (i think the ml is up somewhere already?)
His FOY is going to add value with that ugly running line, but 9 lengths off a 45(from the gate @ GP Mile!) is a nice workout, and he was still 9 lengths off at the stretch. Only one work since but at least it is recent and solid. Came home the last 4 furlongs in less than 48 in the Dania.

Hold me back is kind of an unknown horse that you can't really toss with confidence.

West Side and Bittel have to be the top choices.

blackthroatedwind 03-19-2009 09:20 AM

West Side Bernie should be 2:5.

I knew that he was schooling in the paddock during the first 3 races that same day so I assumed it was him. He is impressive to look at. Guess it might not have been.

You mean you don't remember Hard Spun winning this race? I certainly collected money for him running second in the Derby.

Pics can look very different, too - I'll go see him in person. If you knew he was schooling, that had to be him, I didn't see any others around.

And if that was him, he was very impressive looking - maybe 1 race away?

Mike 03-20-2009 10:26 PM

Orthodox might win as lone speed

I'll pass the whole Turfway card, though

JJP 03-21-2009 10:33 AM

West Side Bernie should cruise. Had no chance as speed ran 1-2 around the track in the Holy Bull, and speed ran 1-2-3 around the track in the BC Juvenile yet he was making up ground. Turfway never seems to favor the speed types.

Indian Charlie 03-21-2009 11:31 AM

I don't really get the love affair here with West Side Bernie. I could see him run fourth almost as easily as I can see him run winning.

I agree. He could certainly win, but I don't see him as a lock. You can't ignore that the track is like a dust storm with all the kickback and Prado is aboard WSB. He might eat a ton of carpet fiber.
