This year's Yankee Bravo...

Or Steppenwolfer.

I could see them running him again because he didn't take to the slop today....I would guess the Illinois Derby would be the race to see him next

Thunder Gulch 03-14-2009 07:11 PM

I wouldn't toss him completely. With that size, he's likely to need time to get it together and he did pass several while going very wide behind a slow pace in the slop....just saying he gets another shot.

Danzig 03-14-2009 08:34 PM

run him in the santa anita derby-this guy needs a try on the syn.

He's always going to be very wide.....he's always going to be a victim of his own running style....

Giant Oak = Dollar Bill

His run in the Risen Star reminded me a lot of Monba's run in the Cashcall Futurity in terms of recent 3yo prep comparisons. Both had some wise-guy momentum trip wise entering their next race (La. Derby, FOY).

Here ... I ran a search and found it. OMG I was one of those wiseguys touting Monba? after he finally got free very late in the cashcall very similar to Giant Oak's Risen Star: (so embarassing)

Back to the Future

I have never considered Giant Oak a derby prospect for the reason that I wasn't impressed beyond a good solid looking horse in the Churchill Allowance, and GO has some strikes against him in the pedigree analysis things that I look at.

However To be really fair he caught a sloppy track here, and has had some bad trips. He could certainly have hidden form.
He is nice Ill. bred, and He really loves the main track at Arlington Park.
The Arlington poly is fairly similar to the Keeneland track. (guess where i'm going with this race fans...)
I've been playing armchair matchmaker a lot lately, but why not??
Why don't Block and Tarra enjoy this ride, and go ahead and run in The Blue Grass Stakes ? He is already nominated, Big Purse, similar to his home track in a lot of ways, nice prep for going back home or a move to the turf. I doubt it, but if he did win then they are going for the Derby.
Have some fun ;)

Bobby...He won one freakin, very sub par allowance race on the AP Poly. I admit he isn't on the Derby Trail anymore, but if you think his best days are on the Poly, I think you should look at his PPs some more

I've watched his races a ton of times. I am not making a statement about whether his best days are on poly or anything like that. All I am saying is that he loves poly. (he handles the track well enough) Maybe he loves dirt too or even loves dirt more lol, the point here is that they may as well enjoy the ride and continue on to Keeneland for the Blue Grass.

sumitas 03-15-2009 02:09 AM

What is the height of this horse ?

TheSpyder 03-15-2009 09:30 AM

What size shoes does he wear? That could be the problem right there:p

I guess the "tale of the tape" only exists in boxing .
