The Catholic Church who loves its $$$ will have to make the right decision to shut down to avoid being hypocritical.

IMO they should remain open and not accept female patients under 60. Or do the right thing and challenge this via Supreme Court and force them to uphold this amendment which, ironically is the first. But let's first worry about our terrorist prisoners and Hammas of course. Priorities you know.

i don't know why they feel they have an issue with FOCA-i read the article, but where does it say all hospitals must provide this service? because i didn't see that.
i have a hard time believing a woman would seek an abortion in a catholic hospital. not all hospitals offer every medical service available, do they?

as for the church not wanting to appear hypocritical, i doubt that's a concern for them. they trumpet human life as being sacred, but would rather have the aids epidemic running rampant in south america, than accept and promote condom use.

and I believe there are some women immediately willing to step up just out of spite. South American Aids epidemic? I did find these stats... But heck since we're buying lets pay for a million condoms and provide free healh care to all infected, their families, pets and why not throw in a doorbell or Hawaiian Canoe ride while we're at it.

Laws requiring parental notification and informed consent would be tossed out. While there is strenuous debate among legal experts on the matter, many believe the act would invalidate the freedom-of-conscience laws on the books in 46 states. These are the laws that allow Catholic hospitals and health providers that receive public funds through Medicaid and Medicare to opt out of performing abortions. Without public funds, these health centers couldn't stay open; if forced to do abortions, they would sooner close their doors. Even the prospect of selling the institutions to other providers wouldn't be an option, the bishops have said, because that would constitute "material cooperation with an intrinsic evil."

now, there's the rub-they want fed money, but want to cherry pick what federal laws to follow? lol how interesting.

i didn't agree with those conscience laws-if you went to your pharmacist with a valid prescription, your pharmacist could refuse to fill it based on his/her religions beliefs-birth control or morning after pills for instance. but how that can lead to a hospital having to buy the equipment to provide a service they have no wish to provide?
