manny rejects offer

25 mil 1 year..wtf. why not..he must really hate the skipper

SniperSB23 02-03-2009 03:08 PM

I think he's just getting horrible advice from Boras who is still telling him he can get a multiyear deal. And the Yankees might not be there to bail Boras out this time from looking like an idiot.

The economy is fine, someone will give him more money.

I'm interested in the Abreu to ChiSox rumor..One year deal maybe offered? But then you have to move Dye to make the $$ work and at the end of the day, Abreu maybe only slight upgrade over Dye. Wish he played second base...

Only $8 million too, tough to imagine someone won't try and beat that. Why don't the Sox just sign Hudson if they need a 2B that bad?

$$$, plus Kenny has three kids lined up to compete for the position. He won't upgrade anywhere through free agency unless the dollars are close to washing. The 2b comment was just wishful thinking on my part...it isn't happening

Yanks say they are tapped out, and aren't gunna sign Manny.

SCUDSBROTHER 02-04-2009 08:25 PM

Give those 2 greedy cntz 60 million for 2 years. We made between 10-20 mil off him already.

It's a cultural thing. He sees Texiera get all that guaranteed money for being nowhere near as good a player. Manny is a freak that sees the ball better than anyone ever has. I don't expect that to go away as soon as others do. I can see why he thinks he deserves 4 years/100 mil. The problem is 1) He quit on a contract, and 2) He boasted publicly about his worth at the end of the season. Those 2 are issues in this culture. Both are signs of a lack of respect for authority. I just don't think people want to give someone 100 million dollars, and then have to put up with attitude. Fact of the matter is that this club is the best fit for him.

Well let's look at the players who would/could afford 100 million.
1-Yankees: now matter what anyone says they are never out of anything. Would anyone be suprised if he ended up in the bronx? No way, but with all the money they spent, he's not a necessity.

2-Red Sox: Just aint happening

3-Mets: It seems to be the perfect fit. Are they balking becuase they really don't want him or is it the price? Maybe they are trying to get him at the bargain basement price. I still think he ends up in Queens.

4- Dodgers: He basically put the team on his back and took them to the playoffs. But I guess there's no huge market for him, so why should bid against themselves and give him a huge contract. Plus aren't they still paying off Andruw Jones (sorry to bring that up SCUDS).

5- Angels:The way Moreno seems to operate is if he really wanted Manny, he would of had him already. I don't think they were really ever in the running.

6- Texas?: They learned the hard way with A-Rod.

Really with the Yanks, Red Sox and supposedly the Mets out of it. Where's he going to get that kind of dough?

SCUDSBROTHER 02-04-2009 10:19 PM

Angels G.M., and the Yanks G.M. both say it isn't gunna happen. Mets say they lost last year because of pitching(not offense.) Mets got a bad habit of trying to buy a ring(that's a popular theme there isn't it?) I guess I won't be surprised if it's the Mets. There seems to be a general lack of overall discipline there. The Mets G.M. should be long gone. Should be gone like Blago is.

Payroll is at $133 million right now, the owner has set a budget of $143 million for Minaya to work with. Minaya decided getting Perez back and adding K-Rod and Putz to the bullpen was a better use of available money than Manny. Mets could land someone else in the $10 million range but no way they can get Manny for anything less than $25 million so no chance of him coming unless he burns bridges with the Dodgers and suddenly becomes far cheaper. They do badly need a right handed bat in the OF to start against lefties though. Price is right on Abreu but he's a lefty so won't be a Met. Emil Brown seems the perfect sort of guy to get, can't hit righties to save his live but hits lefties quite well. Unfortunately I haven't heard his name mentioned in any rumors though.

Do you think that the 143 million dollar number is just a company line not to get Manny? Between their network and the new stadium, money shouldn't be a problem. Really in the grand scheme of things what's the big deal about going 10 million doallrs over budget? Obviously I'm talking about the baseball world here and everyone knows that they are all so far from reality it's ridiculous. But Manny to the Mets just seems like a natural fit. It would give them that big bat presence in the lineup that other teams would fear. Personally I don't think they have that now. They have already made big upgrades to their biggest weakness. But in my opinion getting Manny would put them over the top and guarentee that they are still playing in October this year.
