1/30: Gulfstream ($64k C/O)

Thursday was another rough afternoon at Gulfstream as winners beyond the obvious proved hard for me to find. The day's lone score of interest was tabbing the feature superfecta straight for a $248 score as Elusive Heat was the easiest kind of winner. The late P4 wasn't $50,000 again, but it was a healthy $2,630 with $36 Princess Haya in the anchor leg. A three day carryover has reached $64,500 as a result of the tricky sequence, and it is notable how quickly the P6 pools have grown in just the last two weeks at Hallandale. Hope you did OK...

Steve, I, like you, have been waiting for Silver Success to return to the turf, but 5 furlongs seems a bit short for him, yes/no?

Maybe.. As Serling has made clear after a summer of watching turf sprints, the turnback, his favorite trainer move, doesn't have the same potency on the lawn as it does on the main track for reasons yet to reveal themselves...

I'd love to go a bit wider in the nightcap and will hope we get some help on the scratch board in another heat.

Fun card. G/L today!

Montana doesn't pick up the GP signal until Feb 1st...........hope there is some discussion on the GP Turf Handicap today on ATR. Looks like a pretty interesting race with Court Vision, Red Rocks and Kip DeVille. A preliminary glance makes me wonder if Kiss The Kid might be the play here.

Keep those picks coming..............

100% agree .

For what it is worth, I used Renda in my litte ticket, too. Thanks for making me feel like I might be getting the hang of it!

5 furlongs was JUST far enough.

Steve

I just saw this (and have no idea whether the horse won or not, as I have no interest in that race). However, I disagree with Serling on this. I think the cutback is as potent on turf and poly as it is on dirt. It's just a matter of picking out those horses that fit the right profile to cut back. Unfortunately, this is yet another topic that just won't get the discussion time it deserves.

LOL.. Well, the turnback favorite DID in fact get up! We'll absolutely have a discussion about this topic...

Redboard alert:

I had the horse singled in the Pick 4 and was getting ready to throw the TV out the window had he fallen just short. Not that it was a huge score, I've just been on the wrong side of a lot of photos recently.

Major General just won the 6th at SA (6.5F turf) cutting back from a 8.5F turf race at BEL in Oct.

The cutback on the turf lives.

Did you post who you liked today ? I could see if Hoss called it a Mush, but who are you to say anything ? If you did not notice the horse ran pretty big to run second and fill out a nice exacta.
