Cool Coal Man - Beyer?
 

He made his season debut a winning one today, winning a 6 1/2 furlong sprint in 1:15 and change. Anyone know what Beyer he got? If anyone saw the race, did it look like CCM could be a factor in the handicap ranks this year? I was shocked to find out that he won, to be honest. Thanks!

Time was fast relative to the others on the card but the other dirt races were of such brutal quality that I couldn't even venture a guess except that it should be a pretty solid figure.

Is there an article where Nick is quoted as saying that the colt is being pointed towards the GP Handicap or is that just a logical assumption?

I'm thrilled to see that CCM has returned a much better horse than he was last year. I always thought he was talented, but he disappointed many times. He was a late May foal, though, so maybe he just needed time.

I know you are kidding but didn't CCM have a 95 or 100 Beyer before this layoff. I see no reason to not expect a horse to improve from 3-4 years old and if he ran a 95 Beyer as a 3, improving 5-10 points isn't out of normal. It is improving 25 points that just downright ridiculous.

Does CCM still just have his first two starts around one turn until this one? Tough to know if he's improved or if he simply liked the cutback in distance until we see him again.

why is it ridiculous if coming from a bad trainer to a good trainer?

maybe the previous trainer is that bad (o'conell) scavs no?

maybe the horses beyers would have been better last year with a better trainer and thus it wouldn't have been such a jump up in beyers

Thinking the most man. O'Connell isn't incompetent, at least I don't think so. Horse ran a '4' on the TG's as a 2 year old. With e 117 Beyer, he is in the Ghostzapper territory of numbers.

what were the "rags" numbers scavs the comination of all figures would give the best picture here

I like the horse a lot, but that was one of the first things I thought of when I saw the big number. He loves GP for sure.

Kathleen O'Connell is at a minimum a more than adequate trainer. She has a solid track record over the years with less than stellar stock. She did a nice job with Blazing Sword a few years back as well as the filly Ivanavinalot.

was he the horse who ran real well against Big Brown in the Haskell or was that Coal Play?

how do we know the Beyers are correct bigs ?
