Had been anticipated for a while.. Ultimately looks to split the year with Calder. And Pompano is planning a Quarter Horse meet?!?!

In a step some racing industry officials expected, Gulfstream Park has told Florida regulators that it plans to hold races during 2009’s last five weeks--a lucrative set of dates on which Calder Race Course has raced exclusively in South Florida for more than a decade.

In a filing over the Jan. 3-4 weekend with the Florida Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering, Gulfstream said it plans to run from Nov. 26, 2009 through April 18, 2010.

Calder, in its filing with the Florida DPMW, said it plans to run throughout the last six months of 2009 through May 21, 2010. That includes the January to mid-April dates where Gulfstream has been running exclusively.

Forgive me if my "calendar math" is wrong... but isn't that basically year round?

Having a QH meet would allow Pompano ( The Isles ) to run poker 24/7, instead of the current 12 hour limitation. Florida law allows a pari-mutuel a maximum 12 hours of poker per day for each racing permit.

Also once read that Stronach wants to open a QH track somewhere near Ocala.

Louisiana law requires that each track must host a QH meet and it is tied to the slot revenu, the Fairgrounds had their first one this summer for a week.
