I expect Mr. Serling will be rejoining us very soon with his thoughts on this matter.

I see they're promoting the infield antics on both sides of the fence.

The Kentucky Derby is full of hope, optimism, risk and anticipation. It’s an experience of acceptable excess and is forgivably risqué—a place where you overeat, overspend and over flirt.

On the opposite end, Turn 1 offers a family-like picnic setting, great for all ages, far different from the Third Turn crowd. In between lies a vast sea of people with their territories roped off, wearing their best derby attire with their beverage of choice in hand.

Hey Dew if you were going to get them to cut and paste to make it look like you were hanging out with a girl on the website, you should have gone for Holly Madison. I think you could take that troll Chris Angel, right?

The girl I am next to is Caroline Smith, the other blogger on the website.

...yeah but did they add the stakes schedule yet?

I don't know about that molester stache Dew has working ... but having Bittel Road ranked #4 right now is most disappointing. I know he could have found 20 or 30 horses currently stabled in Japan with a better shot at winning the Derby.

Two very good races at Gulfstream tomorrow for 3yr olds.

Watch out for Free Country.

Those rankings are based on a number of things, value being one of them. Bittel Road is a big price in Vegas right now, and ran well in the Cash Call. Turf is probably his game, I agree. If he fails to impress in a subsequent start on "non-turf", I'll remove him. And I have Brother Keith at #5 for God's sake.

And I don't have a stache. Full goatie, thanks. The shadows are playing tricks on you.

Bittel Road is tremendously mediocre on any surface imo ... but he does deserve some credit because his dam has one of the coolest names ever.

Well, at least he has the right horse ranked first right now.

The rest of the site redesign is totally gay. How much do we need to know about fashion and celebrities at the Derby?!?!?

Tremendously mediocre on any surface? He's a multiple stakes winner on grass, ran 4th in a Grade I on synthetic, and he's never tried dirt.

The Indomitable DrugS 01-07-2009 09:20 PM

The two stakes wins on turf include head wins over Skipadate and Driving Snow. Skipadate ran 11th in the Juvie turf and was beaten 25 in the Delta Jackpot. Driving Snow ran a better race in his defeat.

He's been pretty much exposed as no star on turf - he's lost his last two starts on the surface, including a no excuse defeat to Mr. Rod.

As for synthetic, he was 4th in a VERY sub-par running of the Hollywood Futurity.

As for his dirt prospects, how many horses that Todd Pletcher originally debuts on turf go on to be much better dirt horses?

And as for his 10 furlong prospects, both his sire and dam were speed sprinters. It's not exactly the type of pedigree where you expect late development and improvement with added distance.

I don't know. But I am giving Caroline a chance.

Tremendously mediocre? VERY sub-par? You're so dramatic.

I still think calling him "tremendously mediocre" is a stretch, especially by today's standards. And he's been bet from 125-1 to 75-1 in Vegas.

We'll see how he fares on dirt/synthetic in his next attempt, if there is one. If he runs on the main track again and fails to improve, I'm sure Pletcher won't push him along the trail.

Yeah, don't young women from North Carolina have a reputation for knowing a lot about horse racing around here?

31lengths 01-08-2009 06:56 AM

Ok...seriously....why don't they have the stakes schedule up already?

Is Keeneland's up yet? Maybe they are waiting for that to make sure Keeneland doesn't mix anything up that screws up the spacing between races.
