edit: my bad. leon panetta actually had an (r) after his name for a significant portion of his political career, including the time he spent in the nixon admin. he only became a democrat in 1971 after concluding the republican party had abandoned the center.

yeah those two, porter goss and george HW bush, not W, did a great job.
