When was the last time a 3-year-old ran a 115 BSF in January?

When was the last time a 3YO ran a 110+ BSF early in his 3YO campaign and was a meaningful factor when the Derby rolled around?

How often does a 3yo run a 110+ BSF early in their 3yo campaign? In January the only one I can find the past five years was Da Stoops in '06. And in February just Keyed Entry in '06. Not positive there were none in '04 and '07 but definitely none in '05 and I'm pretty sure there were none in '08.

It wouldn't surprise me if it's never happened.

Yeah, that was in '04. Was February 14th though so a lot later in the year. Chances are this horse is a sprinter but I don't think there are enough horses running this fast this early to say that a horse running this fast early can't be a factor come Derby time. He also ran a 104 last year in breaking his maiden and then stunk up the joint the rest of the year so we may be in for a repeat performance.

I think the trainers history is more relevant. Ward has had a number of horses making debuts or coming off of layoffs that run out of their mind that never get back to that race. Not a criticism but his horses rarely have long campaigns.

The guy knows how to pick a Trainer, whether it was Pletcher, Romans, Frankel or more recently Maker, his horses seem to run with firecrackers up their arses.

As for the win by Delightfull Kiss ... whats interesting about that race was that he came from about 20 out of it with a big wide sweeping move - in a race that wasn't exactly fast paced.

Maidens in the very next race, at the very same distance, went 23.27 and 46.11 - where the Hal's Hope went 23.80 and 46.51

Yes the Valentine's day massacre(sp) with read the footnotes and second of june. I remember watching that vividly and saying afterwards how impressive and awesome the race was little did i know that it totally knocked both horses out and i dont think either one of them ever really recovered. I live in l'ville and i remember second of june getting hurt and having to be put down here at CD. Its so odd how with most horses you only have so many bullets to fire and it seems that these trainers have to space races and time them so perfectly to get there horse to peak at the right time specifically(sp) the first sat in May.

Did Lost in the Fog put up those kinda of numbers? I know he had some big early 3YO BSF's
