Lord what an awful field for a $1mm race.

irishtrekker 08-03-2006 03:19 PM

I keep expecting more from Flashy Bull, but that doesn't mean he's actually going to live up to it. SC to win, then BGC, then DG.

Cajungator26 08-03-2006 03:22 PM

Strong Contender to win this.

Flashy Bull is also entered in the West Virginia derby. Which one is he going in for sure?

I like that pick a little better...

Did Rene ride DG in the Ohio.?....surprised Albertrani didn't go back to GPK's boy Lezcano.

miraja2 08-03-2006 03:24 PM

My pick is a Bluegrass Cat-Deputy Glitters exacta box which (if I'm right) would mean that the racing from Tampa Bay this winter/spring was carrying over wonderfully into $1 million races this summer. That is crazy.

I haven't made a good bet on a graded stakes race since.......well I can't remember when......but I feel confident about this one.
7/9 Exacta box all the way.

slotdirt 08-03-2006 03:27 PM

I think Flashy Bull is still finishing the Derby in what I will always refer to as the "Mike Smith path."

Anyway, is it just me, or is there some nay-sayer complaining about field strength every single time there's a race anywhere? What's wrong with this field? You have the horse who finished second in two TC races this year, a horse that ran well at Gulfstream earlier this year, another graded stakes winners, and a few wannabes. What is so awful about that? I don't have a problem with it. At least it's a reasonably full field.

irishtrekker 08-03-2006 03:49 PM

Oh lord, I forgot about that Derby path. WTF was his plan there? Confuse the other horses into a standstill?

Gander 08-03-2006 03:52 PM

I agree, its not a bad field considering whats left of the 3 year old crop save for Bernardini. I think Strong Contender is every bit the goods and clearly teh 2nd best 3 year old left.

This is a good betting race. I dont like Bluegrass Cat a bit. I dont care who trains him.

I don't know, but it was just bizarre. Go back and watch that race again and focus on Flashy Bull and Flashy Bull alone. It's just downright strange.

Gotta like Deputy Glitters in this one- also like Douglas on him.

DG should have had more in the Belmont but I think Prado(Prado is a great rider) rode him alittle too hard

Douglas already has won on this horse and knows how to ride him!!!

4/1 is a nice price on him too

Not a G1 winner in a million dollar race.

my miss storm cat 08-03-2006 04:27 PM

Deputy Glitters, easily...

AeWingnut 08-03-2006 05:22 PM

Bluegrass Cat runs second in the Derby & Belmont and no one likes him.
He was the best horse in the Belmont
Bob and John ran ridiculous fractions and set the race up for The Great great great great grandson of Colin, Jazil.

Strong Contender is very good. I'll have to look at the rest of the card.

The surface at Monmouth will help Deputy Glitters
but that is a horse I don't like, unless he is 50-1 again

What do you mean "no one likes him." I definitely like him and as I said earlier I think it will be him and Deputy Glitters in the top 2 spots. If I had to go with one of them though....it would be Bluegrass Cat, because I'll take Pletcher/Velazquez over Albertrani/Douglas any day of the week, and I just think Flower Alley is the better/fresher horse.

I agree, and I think it is a great betting race for exotic bets. I think that it is a pretty level playing field as far as the horses' ability goes. I'm thinking that one off the wall horse may could surprise a few. I just have to figure out just which off the wall horse I want to use. LOL! There is going to be some very good races to handicap this weekend, and I think that this could be one of them!

ateamstupid 08-03-2006 11:08 PM

SC and Flashy..

Thunder Gulch 08-04-2006 09:01 AM

I expected a little more from Deputy Glitters in the Belmont, but he was clearly in over his head. Not sure what to expect from him here, but he's no bargain at that price.

Race is exteremly difficult to handicap at first glance. I don't like BC's post at all, tough to win out there. Not really sure about this race yet.

Looks like another Grade 1 for the Albertrani. :)
