Keeneland April 3 - 24th, I'm Going For A Week

Your advice on the best week to go. I am going to use some vacation time and plan on spending 5 or 6 days in Lexington. I have lodging already squared away, so now its only a matter of what week. Sunday thru Thursday, Friday.
Thanks, Curt

Depends upon if you want a couple track dark days, so you can hit the Horse Park, area breeding farm tours, go see Dee Tee Stables & Chuck in Louisville, do a bourbon tour, etc. Or if you want to see specific stakes races.

The meet is the place to be every day. If you want any place to sit on opening day or a Saturday, be sure to buy a reserved seat (can do off the website) or know someone with an open box seat to borrow. It's packed those days.

The best days to go I feel are Friday and Saturday pretty much any weekend of the meet depending on what stakes race you want to see, all day are good races...bluegrass day will be the most crowded...don't worry about getting reserved seats, I had them or the chance to get them every weekend this past meet and never used them because they really aren't anything special....if you can get a box seat then those are good, but i think its best to walk around and check out the paddock and if you want to simucast the reserve seats are worthless...get to the track early and bring some beer and a chair, set up outside your car and get a buzz, walk around and check out the girls before you head into the track, wear a decent outfit so you don't look like an outcast...spring meet saturdays are nicer then fall meet saturdays because half the TVs won't have UK getting beat up in football and you won't have to hear the frat boys with the stupid sunglasses with the holder thing around their head cheering C-A-T-S cats cats cats every 5 minutes. wednesdays and thursdays are pretty low key but still a good time.

Keeneland (and Lexington) weather can be very unpredictable in the spring. If you've ever seen film of the TVG gents Todd and Matt with snow all over them, followed by bright sun and the apron looking like the set of a zombie film (fog from the evaporated snow)..., Pack for anything. Even later in the month, it can get cold and wet, although it is just as likely to be sunny and warm, when hats/sunshades are a necessity in the southwest-facing grandstand.

Don't forget to take advantage of the fact that Keeneland has an open barn area - no gates or guard check points. You can eat at the track kitchen and get a glimpse of your favorite horses, if you know where to look for them. Just show good manners and horse sense.

Steve,

Is ATR going to broadcast there at all? Speaking of that, outside of doing Saratoga, what is on the agenda for onsite broadcasts at various venues in 2009 ?

I called and got reservations for one of the rooms up there this fall.
The lady was very persistent that I wear a sport coat and a tie.
So I ablidge, only to walk in and see plenty of others in golf shirts with no jackets. I even saw a couple of guys in nurses' scrubs.
