That article is harsh. But i would love to know the mentality behind hiring this guy. It isnt like Auburn is uh...Iowa State. The Lane Kiffen hire now looks like Tenn got Tom Landry compared to this guy.

Danzig 12-14-2008 08:37 AM

my first comment to my son when we saw the news is 'they got rid of tuberville for this guy?!'
and he's right, auburn will need lots of luck. the resurgence of alabama will make recruiting in that state a tooth and nail battle, and various florida teams are also in that mix. i don't see auburn going to the bowl games, or going 13-0, like they did with tommy.

Whoa.

Tough crowd in Ames, considering the tradition of the mighty Cyclones.

This is just not true:

Because the players he had at Iowa State were collectively good enough to go .500 or better in each of his two seasons in Ames.

Not in the Big 12 anyway. No way, no how.
And in the Big 12 South they would be extremely lucky
to win two games. They dont get anywhere near the
talent.

But the article does show how important it is to be under a
coach that can recruit... Mack Brown. Texas D is much better
with Muschamp and inexperienced players than with Chizick.

it's hard to say really just how good recruits are-they aren't going to look good under a bad coach. just look at weis for example. every year we've heard that he had a great recruiting class, but look at the results.

nd is coached fairly well , they just don't have any talent.
from the outside looking in, aubarn had a good coach and recruiter. they had a good defensive staff. i have NO idea what's going on there with the offense. like they can't decide what they are.
some of the teams overall problem is a lot of bad attitudes. maybe that's finally caught up to them.
i can't see this guy keeping CNS and Alabama from ruling the state.

Paul Rhodes is a over rated defensive coach. He sucked at Pitt and now that Tuberville is gone you will see the defence will decline as well (that's if he keeps his job).

i would imagine chizik would clean house and bring in his own staff.
Tom, why not bring back pat sullivan?

They should have just kept Tuberville! He had one bad season, he made an error in judgement switching to the spread. Now you bring in this joker and he has to recruit in the south against Saban and Meyer etc.... Good Luck. He will be fired with a losing record within 3 yrs. These super powerfull Alumni are F*cking up college sports.

What Notre Dame needs is talent on both offensive and defensive lines. They have none! They have talent at the skills. Coaching, well first year was good.

It is.
Some kids grow up and come out of nowhere.
Some do very little physical and/or mental development
after High School.
Kinda like the 2 year old horses I guess.
But this crowd (humans) is/are a little better at communcating
and therefore a bit easier to assess. And if the coaches
are estute they will find the right spot for them.
The kid rated as the #1 high school recruit (by ESPN anyway)
in the nation plays QB right now. Not in college imo.

If for example, you take the ESPN top 150
for this/next (2009) year...
imo you are looking at a group that has the
the best chance of becoming good college players.

The kid rated the #2 QB in the nation
from Texas (Austin Lake Travis) is pretty darn
amazing. Even though his team is a smaller school,
they might be the best team in Texas... because of him.
It will be interesting to see how this translates
next year.

I also have read that Weis has got a bunch of good
skill position kids this year, but his O-line was not
as highly rated as the skill positions. (as stated above)

Texas has garnered commitments from the ESPN
#1 and #2 rated Offensive tackles to go along with
that Lake Austin QB. So his chances of living are
probably better than Clausen.

Question: Will Clausen be eaten by a big Polynesian lineman
in the "who cares" bowl...

and again I ramble about the
team I know the best.

All those guys with the giant hair coming out the back
of their helmet scare me. Feel like you have all these
Troy Polamalu's coming at you.

i think tuberville changed OC's practically every year lately. and then the horrible, half-assed attempt at running the spread this year, that guy didn't even make it thru half the season.
auburn lost several recruits already with TT leaving, i don't see this guy having luck convincing those who haven't bailed yet to stick to their oral commitments.

ddthetide 12-14-2008 05:58 PM

he'll keep the couple in-state kids that were barners anyway. they'll have a tough time keeping anything else. chizik only advantage, he was at auburn 10? years ago.
