Likely Whitney Field

Flower Alley
Invasor
Premium Tap
Siphon City
Sun King
Survivalist
Wanderin Boy
West Virginia

I like Sun King because it is only 9F and I think he will be a good price.

irishtrekker 08-02-2006 10:20 AM

I don't know anything about Wanderin Boy or West Virginia. Anybody?

Siphon City is a good story, but he seems completely outclassed here. He put up some impressive times and figures on his home track, but I think it's somewhere in Iowa...

Gander 08-02-2006 10:28 AM

Hard to envision Sun King beating Flower Alley. Hes never beaten anyone close to his ability at this kind of distance. Throw in the fact that Flower Alley loves Saratoga, Pletcher is on fire, and the race looks like it stes up perfect for him and you have a very tough horse to beat.

Invasor looked great last time (thought Durkin was going to lose it during that call), but you have to wonder if the win was a product of a mediocre field or a very good horse? At least Andromedas Hero came back to win. Thats something I guess.

Flower Alley in a romp.

Wanderin Boy won the Ben Ali and was 2nd in the Pimlico Special..... I think he's been injured twice but always manages to come back.

No We Can Seek? There goes my Invasor / We Can Seek exacta.

I think Flower Alley is going to need more than that 1 prep for this one, but I will be rooting for him. I just think if Zito has him in here and not Farmers other horse, he must be ready for a big one.

Actually, he came up from Calder to win the 9f graded stakes at Prairie Meadows. Has improved out of recognition from 3 to 4, dismiss out of hand at your own risk. Didn't Roses in May a couple of years back come into the Whitney off of a Cornhusker win? And win the Whitney, too?

Gander 08-02-2006 10:49 AM

Yes Roses in May looked beaten when Perfect Drift drew along side, but go figure, Perfect Drift couldnt get by. Great race. Peace Rules was very disappointing in that race.

six perfections 08-02-2006 04:54 PM

I think Flower Alley will win.

sumitas 08-02-2006 08:24 PM

Roses In May ran a fantastic race in the Whitney with incredible fractions carried right to the wire. It catapulted him to stardom.

This year could be a great race as well. On their game, any of these horses could factor. We'll have to take a closer look.

Gander 08-02-2006 08:28 PM

I think if it was any other horse, he would have went by Roses in May, but it was our favorite hanger Perfect Drift. Roses was a very good horse, but lets not get carried away. Stardom? That Dubai World Cup was a nice performance over a bunch of turf horses.

Danzig 08-02-2006 08:33 PM

roses was good. lucky too, which on the right day will pay huge dividends.

i guess come sunday we'll have a whole new round of '_______' will be HOTY after he wins the whitney....

but who will it be??

Gander 08-02-2006 08:37 PM

If Flower Alley does not win the Whitney he has absolutely no chance of winning HOY.

The only 2 with a shot would be Bernardini and the Lava Man....

But FLower Alley will win the Whitney. Hes a very good horse and loves Saratoga. Whos going to beat him, Sun King? Pleeeease.

sumitas 08-02-2006 09:06 PM

besides, who can forget a beaming Ramsey hobbling along on the track in Dubai after winning the world cup, leading Roses. kenny mayne said that Roses stepped on Ramsey's foot and in turn Ramsey bit him, LOL...

Hickory Hill Hoff 08-02-2006 09:38 PM

Rather see SUN KING...

I wish Nick would keep SUN KING sprinting, he'll do far better there

Gander 08-03-2006 08:13 AM

Sun King...

Maybe the Whitney is a very unusual prep for the Forego?
Would make sense to get some bottom into the horse.

Was just going to say the same thing...Sun King's turned into a pretty decent off the pace sprinter. Poor decision - or delusion of grandeur - places him in this field. Other than that, Flower Alley should be fresh for this one.

I've been a little out of the loop when it comes to Survivalist, but has he shown any recent form that puts him in the thick of things?

His 2nd to Ghostzapper while beating Pleasantly Perfect at Lone Star was a very nice race
