no, they should not.
people travelling with a child over a year old must pay for an extra seat, regardless of where junior sits for the duration. airlines could potentially miss out on a paying customer because someone wants a second seat at no charge. and why limit only obese people? i'd be more comfortable with room to stretch, i demand a free seat as well!

This is bound to endear large folks to fellow passengers.
Between this, and the Mastadons that visit all you can eat trough restaurants, Canada could become a great place for fat suit wrestling.

In the long run, because of the conflict created, one can envision a fat person's bulk taking up part of a 2nd seat; This half seat of blubber is then offered as a peace sign to other passengers so as to not create a spectacle.

The ramifications of this quandry will up gastric bypass surgery
and health care in Canada will suffer.

They can afford to pay for an extra seat...just use part of the 10 million that they won suing McDonald's for making them fat.

call me a racist but...result will be non-obese people will end up paying more... the airline is going to make their money one way or another...

There's a lot of reasons to dislike this ruling, IMO.

Sure, I'll go along with this idea that there are morbidly obese people that are disabled and need extra room. No need to give them free seats, though, the Airlines should just install some Handicapped accessible X-tra large seats

Of course, how will one prove that they are disabled and can access the new, bigger, plusher comfy chairs( or simply the plain old extra seat)?

Will a Doctor's note suffice?

Will the standards for handicapped here be as lax as they must be for all those out there who have a handicapped sign hanging from there rear view mirror?

I think the spirit of this law, which pertains to a few, has been corrupted by the many fat people who have earned their way to their present status

I'm 200 pounds and should be 160 pounds, do I qualify?

I'm thinking we can expand this ruling to restaurants also... those that are twice as hungry as normal should get another meal at no extra charge....
while we are at it, let's extend it to the bar business....those that are three times as thirsty as normal get three drinks for the price of one...
