Shakis - R.I.P.

Very sad. TVG is reporting that Shakis broke down in a workout and had to be put down.

Oh no.

God damnit this sucks. I just got home, checked email, got a workout for him.

I've been a fan of his since he was with Doug Watson in Dubai... when he ran in the Duty Free back in 2005.

The next spring he finally got a win... the Maserati Trophy. Beat a nice field. Was thrilled when he came stateside.

Just very, very sad news.

I'll miss him.

Good night, good boy.

A ******* shmae.

A super 8 yr old campaigner . I guess the last place finish in the BC Mile warranted just "one more race."

I almost joined him a little bit earlier today while 'running' to catch a bus (and found that I couldn't quite run the way I once did cause I was OLD).

Hadn't he earned a Dubai vacation?

He had already been in Dubai though... 10 races from 2005 to 2007 including the Duty Free (2005), the (2006) Dubai World Cup (where he didn't exactly do well. Pretty sad list to look at now... Electrocutionist, Super Frolic and now him...).

Yeah... and he's one of the few I thought was durable. I'm assuming the plan was to retire him at the end of the year?

Coach Pants 11-21-2008 03:20 PM

yes he did earn his trip to Shadwell to join Invasor among others. He was sound and the trainer wanted to retire him after his second Baruck win but then "one more" against Big Brown. Then one more at Keenland. Then one more in the BC where he was 4th early for some insane reason. Then one more. A dam shame. He was the barn favorite. Vibrant personality and he really loved to run and train. Very very sad. Sometimes I just hate this game so much. Well, pretty often actually. I wondered if folks would mention him here. Glad to see he had some fans. Glad I found this.

DRF says he was working on the main track, which is Cushion Track, I believe.

Thankyou.

Unfortunate about the horse.
