Your post about Atlantic City got me thinking...any developments on Hialeah being sold and restored. Have not heard anything for quite a while.

No. The Halsey Minor offer/interest is on hold with Minor having figured out that John Brunetti is full of crap. Minor is going to try to wait him out and is poised like a vulture over Magna as well. He's determined to buy an important racetrack somewhere..

I hope Halsey Minor can get Hialeah. He sounded very excited about the project when he was on Steve's radio show. We can use that kind of excitement and vision in this sport.

If he gets it done, I will make it a point to go visit and check it out.

Obviously Minor would be an upgrade over Brunetti and/or Magna but I fear that his 'vision' for racing seems an awful lot like Stronach's was when he decided to become a track operator. The cold hard fact is in the gambling business currently there is tons of competition that didnt exist in years past and the ontrack experience regardless of how great it is simply not enough to mitigate the effects of casinos, slots parlors and online gaming among other things on the bottom line. Like it or not it is impossible to operate a racetrack and be competitive in regards to takeout, bettors perks (rebates, better customer service, maintain facilities, etc.) and purses while maintaining safe racing surfaces and adequate barn facilities without an alternate form of gambling or 'handout' from those that exist.

Maybe they should hire dancing girls,put up some stages with lots of mirrors and poles,and have table dances between races!

This is well said Chuck and I agree. I dont think Stronach's "vision" was that far off. I just think he bit off way more than he could chew. If he had kept his purchases to just Santa Anita and Gulfstream, he could have invested much more into making his "vision" complete and the finished product would have been better all the way around.

The world has changed and racing needs to change with it. In order for tracks to sustain themselves year around, there has to be other means for generating income.

Now here is someone with vision!

Topless car wash near Greensboro, NC use to do slamming business. They actually did a good job washing the car too. Had tables set up where you could sit and get a lap dance while your car was washed.

close down the grandstand and have internet only racing

I really think that would work. Just make sure they are young and hot.

Men shouldn't be the only ones to get some enjoyment. Instead of table dances, make them balance on top of the outside rail. Much more entertaining and something for both genders to enjoy. And if it's a dirt track, you have the added bonus of falling in the mud as a possibility.
