Ness & T. Bay

trainer jaime ness is usually one you cant throw out at tampa bay. with the meet coming up soon I have noticed he is only 4 for 69 at hawthorne. is this the end of his miracle work or should I never throw him out at tampa again this year?

We're going to have to watch the first 10 or so starters he has closely. His record at Hawthorne will not scare me away from including him on a ticket.

His main deal at Tampa is claiming a horse and improving said horse drastically the next time out. His stock may be a bit tired after a long summer at Cby and he'll get the necessary new blood when they start running at Tampa.

Imo, the "miracle work" will resume on Dec. 13.

It's just my opinion from following the racing at Hawthorne this year, which has been overwhelmingly terrible, that lots of his horses here just didn't look very good.

I figured he'd be doing better than he is, but I haven't liked very many of his runners, and can probably count on two hands the number of those horses I've thought looked like serious winners.

That's just me, take it with a grain of salt, but I wouldn't be turned off at all by it.

Mr. G - It will be interesting - there were a lot of rumors being spread around Cby one of which was that the Minnesota Racing Commission was going freeze samples from the top 3 guys at Canterbury late in the meet.. Never saw or heard anything formative so I dismissed it as just internet drivel. But subsequently Ness moved a bunch to Prairie Meadows and other places, settling himself in at Hawthorne.
He then cooled off considerably afterward, toward the end of CBY and finished the meet with 43 wins, 3 best behind Justin Evans (61) and Mac Robertson (77) both of whom are at Turf Paradise for the winter I believe.

Like you have observed, the magic of all that "prep work and watching replays" seems to have waned since.

It will be interesting for sure.

Medication Violations from the Canterbury meet -

It is not the strictest place in the country, but really it's two different arguements...For instance the stuff on this list - we all know that methlyprednisone will help swelling, methocarbonal will help with chest congestion, etc., etc., but they aren't enhancing the performance of the horse - just making the horse more comfortable... The fact is they were over the limit and were fined accordingly.

The jab at Ness' 4 positives in 3 months was probably unfair, he was caught and he paid his penalties.

There is one guy on the list who isn't even in the top 20 that had 8 positives for the meet including a 15 day suspension. But I digress...

The real issue is the stuff they can't or don't test for.

TCO2> 40mMoles/L is just a $500 fine? OMG.
