ACRC decision may come Wed.

Greenwood says they can't run a 20 day meet at Atlantic City Race Course without a piece of the NJSEA casino benefit dough that aids MED, FRE and MTH... Would be a sad end to what was once a great facility and a particularly famed lawn course that helped build the interest in turf raxing in the U.S.

I'm sure AC was once a wonderful racetrack, but their two or three day, simulcast only, cheap turf racing, meet will hardly be the greatest loss in racing. At a time when there are arguably too many tracks running why exactly should they receive a subsity so that effectively they can continue to be open as a simulcast facility in an area that has plenty of other facilities taking bets on racetracks?

Generally agree. Hard to accept that Greenwood as a corporate entity cannot bolster the requested 20 day meet with their Pennsylvania money if they really wanted to.. as well as renovate ACRC.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but are you saying that if you go to ACRC to watch live racing during their mini-meet in the early spring, you can't bet on the races?

I was planning on heading down to AC this year to take in a card or two, as I've never been, and would like to do so before the doors stay closed forever. I realize I may have missed my chance already.

The last couple of years you could only bet ACRC on site.

Steve's right I think....I had it twisted around.

Was over at there today when word came down that they received ok from State to run the 6 "live" days again next year..

I have a soft spot for ACRC. Saw my first races there, near my parents' house in NJ. Would like to see it (someday) get revitalized. South Jersey has no tracks now that Garden State is gone.

I guess thiis buys another year to see if anything can come of renovation suggestions.. I'll have Sal Sinatra on to get thoughts about the possible future for ACRC from Greenwood's perspective.
