seeking advice on Penn Nat'l

Planning a trip, went only once before, don't usually bet there. The first time there I got took to the cleaners. Not blaming the whole day on this, but there were some inexplicable results. In the last race, with a big field, the longest odds horse won, the second longest placed, the fourth longest showed and another double-digit-odds horse came in fourth. Astronomical payouts. I had none of those horses in my picks.

One thing I think I learned from that day is that workouts count for nada at Penn. Because these were a lot of cheaper animals, I figured that horses showing a recent work were fit, or at least not sore, and should be given extra consideration. At least on that day, couldn't have been more wrong.

Any regular Penn players on here willing to give some general advice? Anyone have any opinions on how the refurbished surface is playing?

I do love me some Penn National, though I have not been since they put in the racino.
