Prop 8 Sucks

I live in CA. We always vote a democratic president, yet we voted for this discriminatory nonsense? Who cares if gays want to get married? It doesn't affect anyone!

And the thing about kids learning about gay marriage...OF COURSE they would learn about it. Just as they learn about when women got the right to vote, when blacks became free from slavery, etc. etc. I'd be disappointed if this wasn't in their history books.

No one is forcing you to become gay. Just because gays get married doesn't mean you and your children suddenly become gay as well. Prop 8 is disgusting in all areas!

Yes. Ironically though, it was the rise in black voters that pushed it through.

Why not target your biggest opponents ? Makes sense right ?

Mormons put the cash up for this prop 8. Checks came flying in to Cali from Utah. It's public(the address of people donating.) Like every 2nd or 3rd name is Utah. It's one thing for our own state's bigots to be doing it, but I don't like people from Utah getting involved in the business of another state. So, that church (or cult) deserves all this backlash.

Anybody really believe Melissa Ethridge's claim that she isn't gunna pay her taxes now? Don't know why they're freaking out, they have been discriminated against all their life. Ain't like they have a new challenge or something.

taxation without representation. seems we've had something big come out of that in the past.

in an ironic twist, gays now back banning same sect marriage. say children born of such unions have a higher chance of being mormonsexual.

I can not see how ONE black person could vote to not have equal rights... they of all people should understand.

Its sick and they should be ashamed. Anyone who voted Yes for any of these Props (in az, ca and fl) should be very ashamed of themselves.

I think they vote for the Democrats because of economics. But in all other issues like this, they seem conservative.

I'm shocked, SHOCKED that black people don't like gays. Who woulda thunk it?

What's really sad is that no other race (white, hispanic or asian) could do better than a 50/50 split to make up for the predictably homophobic black vote.

it blows that no one has bitten on the easy jokes about the thread title.

I hear people saying that they are voting dem for the economy and I just don't see it. How is taking my money and spending it on stuff I would never support good for the economy?

Most pols run conservative and govern as liberals

Divorce lawyers are extremely bummed that Prop 8 was voted down but don't worry the gov & courts will ram it down everyone's throat

bad choice fo words

That meant that Blacks traditionally vote for Dems, because Dems care more about the poor than the Reps. One look at the Republican Convention Audience, and they can see exactly who that party favors.

Why do you hate our soldiers?

GenuineRisk 11-10-2008 08:59 PM

Seneca Falls was in 1849, and the Nineteenth Amendment wasn't until 1920. Equality takes a while. Was is Dr. King who said the arc of history is long, but it bends towards justice?

This is definitely a step back, which stinks. And I wish the gov't would take away the Mormon church's tax exempt status for this, as it sure seems that they were involving themselves in politics in ways that violate that status. Not to mention the gov't could use the tax money. ;)

Antitrust, I'm with you in that it makes no sense to me- discrimination is discrimination, but, unfortunately, a lot of people don't see it that way. A lot of African-Americans are very religious, and the American Christian faith is not particularly open to homosexuality.

Those of you with newly-minted Democrat representatives (or Republican ones who are social liberals), it would be worth writing them and asking them to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act. It was a bad law; one of the worst days work Clinton ever was did signing it, and it needs to go. Time for two more steps forward.
