A disproportionate amount of Virginia's wealth is in the north. The north is what delivered Virginia to the blue side.

What was also interesting is 70 percent of the people polled who voted for Obama said they thought he would raise their taxes- and yet they voted for him anyway. Makes me think two things-

A) The Republicans are going to need to find a new sales pitch besides "cut taxes."
B) Lots of Americans are wildly optimistic about how much money they are going to make in 2009.

Uh...yeah..interesting! I can't see raising taxes, they'd find a way to blow that money too.

SCUDSBROTHER 11-07-2008 02:12 PM

Obama's % of white vote was most by Democrat since Carter (tied Clinton's % in reelection)...that is the one figure that really gives me hope. I think the Republicans need to start distancing themselves from the religious right, as several Rep spokespersons have observed, they are becoming the party of the white southern male...they are even in trouble in the midwest. In 2050 when minority groups outnumber whites, they will be in danger of becoming irrelevant. It will be an interesting next 8 years!

The Republicans will get a boost though once the 2010 Census comes out and the electoral college is adjusted. Based on expectations:

States gaining an electoral vote:

Texas ( possibly 4)
Florida (possibly 2)
Arizona (possibly 2)
Georgia
California
Nevada
Utah

States losing an electoral vote:

New York (possibly 2)
Ohio (possibly 2)
Illinois
Iowa
Louisiana
Massachusetts
Michigan
Missouri
Pennsylvania
