Within Temptation

Just got their Black Symphony DVD/CD...the DVD of their concert earlier this year in the Netherlands is about 2 hours long and quite possibly the best live concert DVD I've ever seen, a renowned orchestra and full choir as backup, spectacular effects, beautiful outfits worn by Sharon and the second best voice in metal (only Tarja can outdo her and it's close). 21 brilliant songs and the beginning ouverture....Sharon is breathtaking!!!

And another favorite of mine from the concert:

The entire concert is wonderful, she does a lot of ballads as well, her voice just soars! I know some folks won't like it (music is a highly personal like/dislike) but I figured it never hurts to share something I really like. The End of an Era DVD from Nightwish has been my favorite and Tarja rules but Sharon has a great voice and Within Temptation doesn't make the mistake Nightwish did...they rely on her voice and put her front and center. The hardest thing is trying to describe the music...if I say heavy metal which is how it's classified, half (or more) of the folks won't even listen...to me the only description is classical orchestration and choir with Opera and metal instrumentation...I've heard different terminology....some folks would argue it isn't metal at all...to me, it something I love, I don't care what it's called.

This song suffers from a severe intro violation (like 50 seconds) but eventually gets it together...either that or the chick in the bustier is so uber hawt that the music doesn't matter.

Not a typical duet.

I was immediately put off by the scream-o. Then spent the rest of the video wondering how that dude does not compliment her.

the rest of it reminded me a little of
Trans-Siberian Orchestra

Problem is that her voice overpowers most singers (same issue Tarja has...that's why Marco was great with her). Perhaps the second video was more to your taste?

A nice tribute:

Mort...maybe not metal enough for you? What's a metal concert without at least one song featuring a growler...

Gee...and to think I could have seen this live.

Some people get all the breaks.

One last song...not from their concert but a few years old with Sharon and my favorite singer of all time...Tarja Turunen.

Yes somerfrost, I was there that day, on the Grandstand Apron, with tears in my eyes. RIP GW
