World Series Matchup Poll

With 24 hours to contemplate, what is the World Series Match you would like to see most?

Kasept 10-08-2008 07:59 AM

TV execs undoubtedly rooting for:

1st Bosox-Dodgers
2nd Bosox-Phils
3rd Rays-Dodgers
4th Rays-Phils

Almost as challenging as Texas Hold 'Em.

I agree about the Dodgers but don't you think that they might be kinda wishing for the Rays given the 'new' angle and the 'underdog' angle.

I can tell you that I would almost guarantee that MLB is rooting for the Rays to win it outright. Rays win it all and it buys the MLB about 10 years before they have to fix the bad payroll issues that exist.

MLB never roots for the Rays of the world.. just like MLB conspired to ensure that the Expos would have to leave Montreal. MLB wants the Red Sox, Yankees, Mets, Cubs, LA Angels, Dodgers, et al, in the Series or as Champions every year, and they go out of their way to encourage it. (Not that anything can help the Cubs..). It KILLS them when teams like the Twins or Rays go on runs. The major sports always want the high profile 'forever dominant' types to be in the limelight for obvious reasons.

Pretty much the way I feel. I have two things to look forward to in the playoffs, rooting for the Mets and rooting against the Yankees. This year I've been deprived of both. I'm a huge hater of the Dodgers (Orel in 1988 still hurts), but the only scenario that I might watch is a Dodgers-Boston World Series just for the fun of tormenting my Sox fan friend if Manny, Nomar, and Lowe beat them in the World Series. Not to mention seeing Torre win the World Series after the Yankees missed the playoffs would be pretty amusing.

Scioscia is the one responsible for beating you in that playoff series. I remember it very well. Right field foul line off of ya Tampa Coke fiend. Without that, the Mets are World Champs in '88.

Mortimer 10-08-2008 01:23 PM

There will be a Peanut Shell pie throwing spazz out contest...right here.

Don't you dare miss it.

Orel shutout the Mets through 8 in Game 1 before they blew it in the ninth, pitched 6 solid innings in Game 3, SAVED Game 4, and then came back to shutout the Mets in Game 7. It was one of the all time amazing series by a pitcher. Without Orel that Scioscia home run wouldn't have mattered.

That's why they call it a team(alone, neither would of been enough to beat you.) Obviously, Orel was the most important part of that club. The commercials he got (because of that success) were pretty funny. That is one square guy.

I'm with Sniper, it would be amusing to see Manny, Nomar, Lowe, and Torre beat the Sox.
