Four consecutive race female jockey winners

A female jockey isn't anything new, but a foursome of Thistledown women turned in a unique performance on July 17. Kirsten won the 11th race with Wegotta. The next three finishers were all ridden by women as well, with Patricia Trimble aboard Tiny Facts, Anne Sanguinetti riding Numerically and Jane Magrell finishing fourth with Lady Spirit.

"It was pretty neat," Kirsten said with a grin. "Anne Sanguinetti and Jane Magrell are the ones I watch and emulate. They've given me pointers here and there.

I guess to be truly politically correct, we should just recognize they are jockeys.

Female or male, not important. Jockeys.

I guess.

I stumbled upon this tidbit in an article on cleveland.com a few days ago:

http://www.cleveland.com/horseracing...sten_swan.html

It happened in July, but my cursory glances at this place didn't catch a mention.

I thought it merited some note, just in case it had been overlooked.

They are both brutally bad in case anyone hasn't seem them ride.

It would be a lot like a newbie poster saying Sumitas and Merasmag are the ones they read and emulate.

Hey Sanguinetti used to be relatively okay when she was just starting out....

....at Portland Meadows.

I still remember when she won the Portland Mile on Charlie's Pride!!

At Portland a few years ago, we had more girl jockeys than guys, not so anymore.

Oh the good old days....not sure who's out there anymore and haven't followed it much since I moved, but used to love Twyla Beckner and Shawna Barber, and the fact that they'd stand around after races and just shoot the **** with you, having no idea who you were.

twyla is going to school now, and i think Shawna Barber married Chris Dragone, who was GM at Portland, Great Lakes, and most recently Maryland JOckey Club.

Our leading rider the past couple years has been Joe Crispin, but Ricky Frazier who has been Emerald's top dog the past few years will be coming down this year. 2 years ago our avg. handle at PM was 200k and last year it was almost 600k, so things are definately improving here.
