almost million dollar man

Was reading this article on Jeremy Rose's imminent return: http://www.centredaily.com/sports/story/845158.html

One thing caught my eye. The part where he says that he figures that the 90-day suspension cost him close to $200,000.

Is that right? Was he expecting to win some big race that went on in his absence? Was he figuring in the big boost he no doubt gets when Dominguez leaves Delaware for the Spa? Was he including the cost of lawyers and PR agents resulting from the incident? Or is he saying that he expected to make $800,000 this year? If it's the latter, holy moley.

Who cares what it cost him, his actions were unacceptable, he should have been suspended for a year.

Brutal.

According to the article, Rose's mounts this year made $4.1 million, so his 10% would be $400K. That's for half a year, so 90 days (a quarter of a year) would be $200K on average. Whether or not he would have earned that is another question.

What stands out to me is that he still hasn't got a clue, and neither does his agent. Both of them seem to be saying that, if this had happened in the past or at a smaller track, it would have been no big deal. Sorry, it's still a big deal to me (and I think PETA is a bunch of nut-cases,:zz: so I don't think I have a pre-conceived bias regarding his actions).

We have lots of horse lovers and animal lovers here, including me.

But, I thought at the time there was some disagreement as to how blatant and intentional his striking actually was?

watch the replay, there is NOTHING to dispute. He did exactly what he was accused of, and from the tone of the article, it i obvious he hasn't learned a thing.

Is the author of this article getting the horses name or sex wrong? The only Appeal to the City on pedigree query was a male. Does anyone have an update on the horse?

Thanks

I believe the horse has actually raced since then, but I could be wrong. I know she was all over the PP's when I was at Laurel last month.

No disrespect, but your theory is incorrect. It doesn't work that way.

Not that it matters as I agree with your other point. Talking about how severe the penalty was, etc., after the fact -- pointless. Don't show everyone that you don't have a clue. You stepped up, took your medicine like a man. Don't be an after dinner speaker about it now.

After reading the article, I got the impression that Rose did accept and more or less agree with his punishment. Maybe his agent was griping, but Rose wasn't.
