It's official... War Pass Retired

No shocker, Sniper and I had gone to his barn during the Saratoga meet and Zito's assistant trainer had hinted that he wasn't going to run again. Will stand at Lanes End.

I saw him Wednesday.

On the positive side, Biker Boy looked good on the racetrack.

When is he due to start again? He hasn't been out since Derby Day, right?

He's scheduled to come back in the Could've-Been-Something-Based-on-the-Speedfigs Stake, where he'll be facing:

Unbridled's Heart
Harlem Rocker
and some others

One thing is for certain: no SLOW horses in that stake.

The winner gets Sweetnorthernsaint in a match race.

Possibly the strongest post you've made.

Agreed, solid post.

I still would like to see where he's going... one of the few 3yo's I'm still holding out hope for.

He was the only horse in the race that showed me any potential to be very good. He made a nice move on the turn. Unfortunately he wanted nothing to do with 10 furlongs, something they should have found out back in the Preakness instead of the Travers. How many horses does that leave us with that could have won the King's Bishop if they had skipped the Travers? At a minimum there is Harlem Rocker, Pyro, and Tale of Slowkati.

Harlem Rocker ran ok in the Travers, but i feel he has been over hyped from day one.

I bet him in the Travers, and yeah the trip sucked, but he doesn't want anything to do with 10F against real horses. He'll be a beast in the Jerome if they turn him back.

Winning a leg of the Canadian Triple Crown is kind of like winning a leg of the Big Apple Triple... sure, it pads your bankroll, and if Mercury Rising won the Mike Lee I'd be thrilled, but it's sort of like being the leading scorer on the freshman basketball team when you're a senior... don't be looking to score chicks off of the accomplishment.

philcski 09-06-2008 11:29 AM

By the way, yeah Unbridled's Heart should not have lost that allowance race but the winner Acai came back to lose an excruciating photo in the Pa Derby, and the 4th place finisher Dr DFC came back to win a NYB stake impressively and run a good 2nd in another one. I'll give him another shot, wouldn't be surprised to see him in the Jerome as well.
