corinthian

I like this horse but this nw/2 might be tougher for him than theJim Dandy would have been. The other horse in nthe entry and Scipon could be tough for no other reason than the age differance. Even if he loses he could have an excuse , tackling older horses.

boldruler 07-29-2006 09:55 AM

The guys I live with were saying the same thing. Why not just go to the Jim Dandy. I am not a huge fan.

dr. fager 07-29-2006 10:10 AM

I can't find the conditions, but my guess is this is a tune-up....why supplement the fee to get into the Jim Dandy

Probably because the race has a $500,000 purse and is a grade 2 and he would have a good shot of running 2nd. Both races are the same distance and he clearly is using today's as a prep for the Travers.

Danzig 07-29-2006 10:13 AM

how many of these are coming back off a layoff? not really a bad spot. he'll get something out of the race for sure....and there's no bernardini in the field!

corinithian could turn out to be first rate, while we already know most of the others he'll be facing aren't even second rate.

Danzig 07-29-2006 10:17 AM

dr fager, is this what you wanted to see?

Approx. Post 2:10PM
Race Type: Purse $53,000 (Up to $10,070 NYSBFOA)Purse $53,000 (Up to $10,070 NYSBFOA)
Distance: One Mile And One Furlong
Conditions: For Three Year Olds and Upward Which Have Never Won Two Races Other Than Maiden, Claiming, Starter, Or Restricted or Which Have Never Won Three Races.

corinthian carries 116, nice break from the others.

what a day! life is good, thank goodness for tvg....

Well Reverberate, Sir Halory and Scipion are all very good 4yr olds and it is a $53K purse. In my opinion Corinthian will not win that race. I think he would likely finish 2nd or 3rd in the JD, depending on how good Ministers Bid is and there are 450,000 more reasons to run in the JD.

dr. fager 07-29-2006 10:19 AM

Yeah, I was curious about that, it costs $5500 to supplement into the Jim Dandy....not that much so I don't buy my theory.

I still think it's a better spot for him, remember how agressive he was, he's been a handful a few times out. I just don't think they want to push him that hard yet.

Danzig 07-29-2006 10:20 AM

i hope they don't rush him....patience pays, and i hate to see when a horse gets pushed too far too soon because his humans are in a hurry! and we're the 'smart' species....

facing off against bernardini et al in his first race back would be tough, and i believe a lot tougher than this allowance, in which he only has to carry 116....it's a good spot to come back in, and i'd rather lose to older than to the preakness winner. payoffs be damned...just look at bellamy road last year, tremendous in defeat and hasn't been seen on the track in the year since!

Don't compare him to Bellamy Road, who was/is one the most mishandled horses in history.

The fact is both races are the same distance and the only reason he isn't in the Jim Dandy is because they are worried he might act like the headcase that he is.

Danzig 07-29-2006 10:37 AM

HELLO, i wasn't saying he was bellamy road. what i meant was i didn't want him pushed too soon as bellamy was, and than be done for the year. sorry if that was too vague for you.

and since i haven't gotten boldrulers list of comparisons allowed on this site, i guess you'll just have to get over any perceived mistakes on my part.

jpops757 07-29-2006 10:40 AM

His entrymate is scatched.

They wouldnt go down because his entrymate scratched - probably stay the same though around even money

Danzig 07-29-2006 10:41 AM

boy, these trainers can't win. try to bring a horse back slowly in an allowance, and critics want to know why they don't come back in a race like the dandy....bring a horse right back in a gr 1 like bellamy last year, and that was the wrong thing too....damned either way. unless of course the horse actually wins the graded race...win the allowance, and the 'i told you he should have run in the stakes' will begin.

The only break he is getting is the weight for age otherwise running against the 4yr olds make this very tough for him in is comeback.

Downthestretch55 07-29-2006 11:21 AM

Just a reminder...Jim J already has Oh So Awsome in the J Dandy.
His spot for Corinthian makes sense.
