Please....

I apologize for the untimely post, but......please no more John DaSilva on ATR. I look forward to listening to the show while fighting the rush hour traffic.
Once I hear DaSilva's monotone voice, I quickly attempt to stop the bleeding from my ears, and tune over to Stern replay.

TheSpyder 08-14-2008 04:47 AM

I talked to Steve and he will accomodate your wishes and not have John on any more...

...even though he's a great capper
...even though he knows more than you about horses
...even though he's a nice guy and does some good things for the sport
...even though you're the only person that has complained

Are you kidding? You get what you get which is more than you get anywhere else. You got to take it all and I'm sure positive suggestions are welcome. But this..........please!

Have a nice day,

Spyder

Please ....Spyder

You are obviously too close to this guy to be objective. You are right...since you like Dasillva, we all should enjoy him. There it is!

I'm sure he is a nice man and a good citizen. I'm sure he is a wealth of horse racing knowledge. That is why he is published in a New York newspaper. I'm positive that he is a better capper than I am, but how would you know what he is saying? Perhaps a few broadcasting classes may serve him well. PS: tell him to talk into the microphone. Some are better suited for print.

Please....no more Dasilva on ATR.

TheSpyder 08-14-2008 03:07 PM

Max, no doubt his voice is made for print. I can't argue with you there, and I don't know him. I live in SC. I just think he brings some good stuff to the table. I also agree he needs to get closer to the mike.

All's well, welcome to the board.

So you'd rather they get Bob Costas or some other moron that knows nothing about horse racing than someone that does know a lot about horse racing but speaks monotone? That makes no sense to me. Isn't the point of the show to learn more about horse racing?

onebadbeast 08-15-2008 01:07 AM

there was a guy named howard cosell who was also disliked, he didnt do to bad now did he?

Well, he's dead now so that is tough to say.

Max Caidy 08-15-2008 10:02 PM

All of Steve's guests can't be winners. There has got to be someone on ATR (at some point) who you didn't enjoy listening to....c'mon now!

I learn every day from Steve. I enjoy John White and Serling, but Dasilva is not for me.

Max, your entitled to your opinion of course, and welcome aboard. I enjoy what Dasilva brings to the show with his knowledge of racing, especially of the NY scene. I don't know his personally either (live in Florida), he seems like a nice guy, and I enjoy his contributions to the show.

the name of the show...

last time i checked the name of the show was "at the races with steve byk" not "at the races with max caidy" okay so listen to whats presented, you might learn something. when you can post an $ 11,000 pick 4 ticket we might listen to your advice but until then, its game over lol

I appreciate the feedback from any one on any aspect of the show. Yes, John doesn't have a great radio voice or delivery, but he is really on top of the NY and FL circuits and provides a good deal of info to the listeners.

But to be "fair and balanced" John is earnest, hard working and has to cover a lot of circuits at once. He has good connections to the Latin and South American side of racing, has a long memory about who is/was who historically in NY, and picks his share of winners. He's an easy target, but is good natured and a guy who cares about the game.
