2:19 Steven?..Really!! I wish I could run on a few hours sleep like that :) Course if I was at 'toga right now, I imagine it would be hard to sleep too...

Good luck today with your picks and try to sneak in a little "cat nap" would ya?! :p

del mar track really playing to speed the last 20 races or so, could be bad news for zenyatta?

10 pnt move up 08-02-2008 08:25 PM

that was funny, even BTW would agree she could have won by more in that one.

geeker2 08-02-2008 09:48 PM

Zenyatta...that was something special to watch run...she just cruised in mid stretch....it was fun to watch.:tro:

King Glorious 08-02-2008 10:01 PM

Ok, I really tried. But that was boring for me. Knowing the winner before the race is like taping a basketball game, watching the highlights on Sportscenter, then watching the game after. But on the bright side, there is good news. We'll get to see this again in the Lady's Secret. Here's the field for that race:

Zenyatta-1/5
Tough Tiz's Sis-8/1
Romance is Diane-12/1
Model-10/1
Whoever else was in the race today.

Anyone willing to bet against me being right? Here are the results:

Zenyatta by 2 in 1:42.73
Tough Tiz's Sis 2nd
Model 3rd

Come on......somebody bet me.

Either Model is really small or Zenyatta is a giant. I know she's a big filly, but damn, she looked like a different species next to Model.

Danzig 08-03-2008 01:43 AM

she's a giant-17 hands is big for a horse, regardless of sex. but the difference between her and her 'peers' is striking-she towers over her fellow distaffers.
with the way the handicap division is going, and with zenyattas ability on AWT, they ought to run her in the classic rather than vs females come bc time-but i doubt they go for it.
a rematch with ginger punch, who zenyatta already handled pretty easily once...

Any horse that can be undefeated with Mike Smith riding regularily is quite a feat! However he seems to have a knack with fillies, very simular to Azeri.

she already shipped across country to give Ginger Punch a whipping, let the others come out to play in the BC.

thats a silly comment, he has been the regular rider of some very very good horses the past 20 years.

Zenyatta is much much better on dirt, I think her action looks better on dirt, I think it helps the other horses the way these races are run on synthetics against her.

letswastemoney 08-03-2008 03:53 PM

She needs to beat someone else worthwhile, besides Ginger Punch.

Zenyatta has been facing Tough Tiz's Sis, Romance Is Diane, Silver Z, Dawn After Dawn, and the other usual fillies and mares all year..

I wish we could see Zenyatta and Hystericalady on a real dirt course. That would be an amazing race.

ginger punch is the leading distaffer on the east coast-and usually east coasters are considered better than their west coast counterparts. zenyatta defeated her pretty handily.
it would be nice to see her vs hystericalady, but zenyatta certainly hasn't had her wins handed to her by any means.

Zenyatta comes from so far back, just waits for things to fall apart whiles she lopes along. She will lose with this style. She is gonna get stuck. Zenyatta can run forever though, thats clearly apparent. But with the comparisons made with Azeri by some... Azeri went out and laid it down. Got in good position up front. Zenyatta awaits death by oxygen debt for the field and just winds her way through. She is gonna get trapped.

I do love to watch her stretch though. She just has so much left. Quite exciting to watch her just pick them off.

your post is silly IMO, she has overcome very slow fractions to run by alot of horses, not many of them have had melt down componets to them, in fact I think a slow pace plays right into her hands, she is closer to the leader and no one is going to outfinish her (in fact she has made middle moves the last three races, closers dont do that). The right way to beat her is to "run her off her feet" and set a very fast pace and keep going, only hysterical lady can do that as of yet, and she cant do it on synthetic, where they run the BC the next two season.

Are you asserting that every good horse throughout racing history was either a frontrunner or stalker? I'm pretty sure she just inhaled Ginger Punch in the Apple Blossom, she didn't just wait for "things to fall apart" as you say. It is also going to be very difficult for her to get trapped when she's perfectly comfortable racing wide, watch her first 3 replays, and will perpetually face small fields.

Yes thats exactly what I posted.

NO.

I am saying Azeri was far more impressive for me (since people were
making comparisons in ealier threads which I thought was a bit much
) because she laid the wood to the field from the get go.

ANd hopefully if she really is as good as Azeri she will get to face the boys so we can have some fun
and bigger fields for her.

Oxygen debt does not need a meltdown, just slower horses
without stamina. Ginger Punch was not one of these.
But you are probably right about Hysterical Lady.

Personal Ensign Stakes could be a good one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
