It rained all night... HARD. Fire and brimstone rain.

What a night, T-Storms were coming in like rolling doubles. Thought the house got hit by lightning at least twice, pretty scary.

I would be amazed if there was a turf race today. I wouldn't be surprised if we had 5 inches of rain between 6pm and 2am.

Please put us out of our misery. What a terrible card of turf races for a Sunday at SAR. Where the **** are all the good turf horses/races? Running at AP (and even MTH), I'd guess.

You really have to think things through sometimes. First of all.......where are all these supposed good horses to fill all these supposed good races? Second of all, with all the rain in the forecast, as well as rain we have already had, it's not that simple to card turf races. You almost have to card them in a manner that keeps them somewhat intact if they come off the grass.

How did things go during your tenure as racing secretary?

Listen. Even a HOMIE like you would probably agree, in a rare objective state, that the turf races carded so far have SUCKED. With the exception of the two very competitive filly stakes, the rest have been even worse than what we were subjected to the last 2 weeks or so at BEL. Compare them to the 1st week's races last year.

I realize there's MUCH competition for the good turf horses: AP, DMR, MTH, WO, DEL, ELP, CNL, etc.

In fact, I'd venture that AP is presently offering the BEST turf racing. Am I happy about this? Do I really want to get in there with horses I don't know, and try to beat what ultimately become calvary charges in large fields? Of course not.

I feel like I'm back at GP.

blackthroatedwind 07-27-2008 10:22 AM

The meet is a few days old, we have had ten inches of rain in less than a week, and you have declared the turf racing the equivalent of GP.

Is it me?

I appreciate the 'brave' front. And you can get as many of the less informed on this forum to agree with you as you want BUT, as someone whose turf opinion is every bit as good or better than my own, I know that it must be getting to you. The TURF RACING IN NY could be so much better than it has been recently. And, the rain has absolutely nothing to do with it. It's probably a combination of poor work on the part of Campo AND, more importantly, less available horses. People aren't shipping in the way they once did.

So, anyone interested in competitive turf races needs to play multiple tracks, where, in the past, at this time of the year, the place to be was (almost exclusively) NYRA.

Quiet Chris 07-27-2008 12:25 PM

Too bad you can't combine Saratoga racing and Del Mar weather.
