Belmont Cancelled 7/20
Well, this is interesting. Due to the fire yesterday, the track is experiencing electrical problems. No air conditioning in the Jockey's Room. It's off to Saratoga.
|
that's too bad. Is NYRA saving money for those increased purses at the Spa? LOL
|
Just amazing.....they couldnt have figured out some other way to keep the jockeys..........oh forget it....
|
what fire?
where was the fire yesterday
anyone have details? |
Those stupid asses couldn't rent one of these for the jock room power supply for one day? Mismanaged crew there for sure...even a high school or pop warner program could have figured this solution!

No air conditioning in CASA FATMAN either.
Not like the jocks don't need to sweat off some pounds. BUSH |
i suspect if they had these same issues on opening day they'd find a way to buck up and get through it.
|
Cancelled
more like a lack of interest....
Probably everyone is already thinking about the SPA.....Gives everyone a day jump to head north Guess the few who showed up at the track were inconvenienced .... |
The spa excuse doesn't fly. They waited until the last minute to cancel.
|
Next thing these jockeys will demand is heat in their rooms at the winter Big A meet.....the nerve of these guys. What the hell did they do BEFORE that rat trap of a Belmont jock room had AC?:zz:
|
I was there on Sat... just as hot.....
they let everyone into the clubhouse for free since they had no power in the grandstand area. I would have been pissed if I had driven 2+ hours only to find it closed. I guess it could have gotten completely unlivable in the jockey area.... it was really too humid to live in the northeast today

Nice critique of the situation, and the meet in general, by the NYDailyNews http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/mo...the_races.html

"This lack of judgment on top of a disastrous Belmont Stakes, which saw the aging facility not able to provide the huge crowd with enough water pressure, causing the bathrooms throughout to fail. Thankfully, the transformer fire didn't happen on Belmont Stakes Day"
I wasn't there, but this is the first time I heard of this problem.. |
transformers knock high voltage down to a usable level for a facility--or a housing development for example. i'm sure just about everyone hear has heard one blow before, sounds like an explostion...evidently their electrical problems were larger than first realized. i can see why they'd cancel a day-those things aren't like changing a battery, or going out and hitting your breaker box to reset stuff...but you would think they'd have known earlier than when they finally announced.
