....looks like the gate broke. Horses have been in there for five minutes....nothing...

I am watching this too. You would think someone might have tested the thing before the first race.

Finally got horses backed out of the gate....still nada. To fill the void 20 minutes after post time announcer tells people to wager early...as the horses walk in circles waiting for the gate to be fixed.

unfortunately.. that would make sense

The horses have already been loaded and backed out twice. They are now going to try again. Hopefully the third time is the charm.

Must..... try..... not..... to..... post..... what..... I'm..... thinking.....:eek:

They have 8 feet of racetrack there....deep. Limestone base with a whole lot of cushion on top. It's rumored to be the best in the country....and it's real dirt.:)

If all the horses are equally slow, you still have a betting contest, yes?

I believe there is a misconception that when tracks are yielding fast times it somehow must be bad because it has to mean the track is too hard.

I've always been skeptical of the concept that tracks where horses all struggle to get over the ground are safer.

Mountaineer's track in the winter yields mind bogglingly slow final times - and yet it seems to be regarded as about the single last place you'd want to race or train over.

Obviously the track the horses get over the easiest should be the safest.

I think the problem starts when such tracks get labeled "speed biased" - and that leads to trainers drilling harder in workouts and jockeys riding more aggressive through the early stages of races.
