Gomez to Del Mar

After spending the past two summers in Saratoga, Garrett Gomez will be plying his trade in SoCal this summer: http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports...-1s6holly.html

He also rode a lot of the Baffert horses. By going to Del Mar, is he telling us that we should not expect much from either Baffert or Pletcher up here.

Yeah, maybe it's his way of flashing signals to the guy standing next to The Spyder a gesture which translates into 'bet the #7'

I'd rather try no to read too much into things jockeys or their agents do or say.

It does have to reflect a fallout from Pletcher fall from dominance.

It's also old news.

I'm interested to see if he bounces back at Saratoga. . . could just be that he's pointing there.

Does this mean I have to change my "handle"? I don't nearly find myself feeling as ill these days when it comes to TAP...

In most cases you probably wouldnt pay attention but this is Garrett Gomez the leading money winner the last few years and his agent is the biggest name in his field.

Sadler is winning everything in sight right now in So Cal and Gomez is without question his first call guy. Even with the fewer horses out there, it seems that Gomez has more opportunites because he is in so many of the top barns. Correct me if im wrong, but in the east it seems like it got to the point he would ride for a lot of good barns but he wasnt getting anyone's best horses consistently.

and yes, it does seem as if Pletcher is having a really bad year. BTW, do you think this is a one year thing or a longterm deal?

He's running alot of horses at Arlington also, on some days he will have more horses running there than in N.Y. That speaks volumes also.

Certainly he and Frankel have come back to earth from their eclispe winning days as all world trainers. Just what the reason for that, that they have in common for their fall back into reality is anyone's guess.

He's got no more Melnyk, right? And for whatever reason it doesn't seem like the Smith, Tabor, Mangier team is spending the tens of millions on stock it has in the past. No super stock, the super CEO becomes mortal.

CA. is his home. He has 4 children. This factors into the decision.

Maybe he will come back to Tucson, his birthplace, and pick up a few mounts during the final season at Rillito Park next spring...

maybe this is a subliminal diss from Johnny V

Maybe he prefers the ocean to the hot-sauna in the rain forest. Look, we have 2 good riders out here(Rosario, and Bejarano,) and Rosario has problems on chalk. He either gets tight on them ,or simply takes them back, and waits until it's far too late to win. It's the same result(betting-wise it doesn't really matter why he does it.) Fact is, he has his eye on the oddsboard. He is simply a better rider on a 6/1-9/1 horse than he is on chalk. That leaves Bejarano and Gomez. There is no way I would trust Rosario to ride a horse who is chalk. There is a lot of money to be made at TOGA, but there are a lot of good riders there trying to get it.

I'm also looking for Nakatani to wake up from his 8 month coma.

I am sure he would like to bounce back at any track right now.. Unfortunately his stock doesn't seem to have that little extra "something something", that used to have them streaming off TV screens across the country. In fact they look as DrugS likes to say like Dog Biscuits..It is pretty obvious Mr. P has lost his best friend...When he finds him again it will be LOUD AND CLEAR TO ALL............................................... .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .......And Horses will start inexplicably dying again.

t doesn't help that he's trying to win major races with the likes of Fairbanks and AP Arrow instead of Rags and Wait a While.
