well let's break the ice and discuss a few races?

Belmont 4.
this race comes down to an opinion on Red Seven. I don't think she is a single, but I don't know that I want to toss her either.
Had everything her way last out going 5f, and still managed to lose. A.Dutrow has a lot of cheap speed. Still, the one who beat her last time would be attractive as a bet-back and she only got beat by a nose. Tough to toss, but I think someone may beat her here.
Asmussen filly Stunning Electra is a prime candidate if for no other reason than Assmussen trains to win first out 2yo and does it at a good% (seemingly moreso with fillies as well?). Slow training style can hide speed, looks like the one time they let her run a little she had a good work over the training track.
Anybody using Dorothy's Essence for Contessa? Is she a must use?

She could very well be.

What do you think of her finish in the debut? Seek On was coming pretty good, but I thought maybe Red Seven was stopping as well.

I think it's kinda dangerous singling horses like her.

i thought it was a pretty good debut and that she wasn't stopping so much as Seek On was just running a huge one. Red Seven continued to leave the favorite Dorothys Essence in the dust, clear by over six in the end.

yeah but i would counter that its also costly to try to beat a horse like that not knowing anything about the other firsters. how many debut horses fire off an 11 in their first race? i'm not saying that i would single her on 100% of my tickets, but certainly the majority.

I hear you, I just don't like betting horses who give up clear leads in the stretch, and combining that with the possibility that there may be one or two runners in the race, I don't think she's a clear single. If I were playing the Pick 6, I'd watch the board. If any of the firsters took significant money, I'd consider tossing her or them in with Red Seven, who definitely looks like the most likely winner.

i know what you're saying, but even though you say she gave up a clear lead, she ran fast. she ran the kind of race that would be a winning effort more often than not. though her 1/4 was 22.2 which i'm sure durkin would agree is blazing, she didn't come home that slow. given over three weeks and a couple interim works i think its pretty likely that she moves forward, and if she does it would be a tall order for one of the others.

3kings 06-24-2008 03:48 PM

I agree with AJim. She ran a pretty solid race and didn't really seem to hang. The time was good and I think the Jockey wrapped her up thinking he had the race won. I think she will improve and unless one of the 1sters is sitting on a huge race she is a very likely winner. Will single unless one of the firsters takes a ton of money.

No doubt. Not saying she's a sucker bet, just saying that I try to avoid singling horses like her usually. I've seen too many horses run good debuts that they should've won, then come back to burn money.

I agree, I have lost a ton of money on horses that always find a way to come in 2nd when they should be much the best. Because of budget limitation on P6's this is the type of horse I'm "forced" to single.
