Grade 1, $300,000 Bing Crosby - Sunday 7-30

Another good sprint race, the sprint division this year is
a capacity crowd.

Bordonaro has won four straight races to rank as the nation's leading sprinter. Carthage has won five straight races, including a victory over last year's champion sprinter, Lost in the Fog. Both are in top form right now as they prepare for the Grade 1, $300,000 Bing Crosby Handicap on Sunday at Del Mar, but trainer Ted West believes he has a chance to upset them with Premium Saltine, who scored an overpowering victory in his West Coast debut on June 14 at Hollywood Park

Premium Saltine will be ridden by Tyler Baze, who was aboard for his victory at Hollywood Park. The rest of the field for the six-furlong Bing Crosby is expected to be Battle Won (Victor Espinoza the rider), Bordonaro (Alex Solis), Carthage (Dennis Carr), and possibly Pure as Gold and Tricky Trevor

Bordonaro
Carthage
Premiun Saltine
Battle Won
Pure as Gold
Tricky Trevor
Secretariat

should be another great sprint on Sunday.

Bordonaro walks all over these. He is clearly the fastest sprinter in America.

Shipped to Gulfstream Sunshine Millions Day won easy, shipped to Oaklawn (Count Fleet G2 I think) in April I believe won easy....hasn't run since. Horse has impressed me.

His Oaklawn race was as good as they get. He seems to flirt with track records wherever he runs.

Great race to watch , hard to bet. Art Sherman is on a roll with sprinters this year (Carthage). Bruce Headly is alway on top of the sprinter game (Bondoraro). Ted West seems to pull a rabbit out of his hat with long shot sprinters , remember Bluesthestandard.(Premium Saltine)

His race at Oaklawn Park was spectacular. 1:08 and change was the fastest time of the meet (which played sloooooooooooooow) I believe.

Well crap, if Secretariat is in the field, I'm definitely going to have to go with him....

Class finds a way to win.

I'm sure Big Red could have found a way to beat Premium Saltine and Bandonero. I really am.

Doubt he could beat Bordonaro at 6F. Secretariat was not a sprinter.

Cajungator26 07-26-2006 11:07 AM

I like Bordonaro, but Battle Won intrigues me as well.

He was pure race horse. He was so smart he would read the form before the race. He knew the conditions and who's heart he would break. Headley sprinter would be sweating at the sight of Big Red. We will never see this race because Bondonaro would be a late scratch.

The best "racehorses" would never beat the best sprinters. They are just built differently. I doubt Secretariat could ever run a 108 6F.

Well he went in 1:09 and change in the first half of a mile and a half race so going a second faster is not out of the realm of possibility.

This is true. Secretariat and Dr. Fager probably could compete with these horses. They just wouldn't be a given to beat them. Secretariat and Dr. Fager were both capable of 108 6F times. That is why they are arguably the two best horses to ever run.
