Wait! Bloomberg says state NOT taking OTB
Oh! Gee... Now that the mayor sees that someone is willing to take over NYC OTB, he wants to know why the city doesn't get to keep the $18 million surcharge... This is rich. The gall on display by Bloomberg is amazing and the fact that the mainstream media REFUSES To give a correct accounting of City OTB's finances is remarkable.
Hegarty, as usual, right on top of the hijinks for DRF... http://www.drf.com/news/article/95486.html Precious in the B-H: http://news.bloodhorse.com/article/45720.htm |
When you have a businessman for a mayor, it's all about taking money in and not giving anything back in terms of service. The dude looks good when it comes to the books but he absolutely sucks when it comes to thinking about the quality of life for those living in the area.

Megalomaniac Mike is just pissed that the state called his bluff and he can't shake down the bettors, NYRA and the breeders. Too effin bad little man!

NYCOTB Deal agreed on tonight!

It would be nice if one person besides Matt Hegarty got the amount of revenue from the surcharge correct.

In that article in mentions that it was created to thwart "private bookies" in 1970. How much of a problem was that before 1970?-and compared to now?
Personally I think y'all need an off-course tote monopoly and on-course bookmakers. Down the Australian route rather than the British or Irish-but tracks could take a leaf out of the British book and have a pitch auction. Everyone wins. Entry fees to tracks stay low. Thousands of bettors will return to the tracks.... |

The short story is takeout on New York races will be raised by 1%. |

NYRA plans to offer at least the added takeout back in a rebate to NYRA One account holders.

I assume only NY residents can get a NYRA Rewards account.
So, net of rebates: 1. non-NY bettors will see higher takeout on NYRA races. 2. NY bettors will see higher takeout on wagers on out of state races. Right? Something for everyone it seems. |
NYC OTB = AHoles
On top of the 1% takeout hike demanded by NYC OTB, now NYC OTB has legally blocked NYRA's ability to show replays on NYRA's own website.
NY State hasn't got a clue on how to run this business. |
