Here is the story

They want the accolades but also want everything else handed to him.

Quiet Chris 06-07-2008 05:56 PM

He should skip it. Stephen Foster is a joke. Go to the Suburban and then the Whitney.

Bigsmc 06-07-2008 06:06 PM

well surely it can't be that he would have to carry too much. hell, he's a superhorse.
how the hell do they think they can get anyone else to run?

The Bid 06-07-2008 06:18 PM

I wonder if Dutrow is still calling for Curlin after getting humiliated today

The eyeroll wasn't meant for you Zig. It was for the title of the thread, I didn't have to read the accompanying story to know that it would make me want to....

oh....

well, apparently i'm beyond stupid anyway, so no surprise that i didn't understand.

King Glorious 06-07-2008 07:21 PM

Didn't he just carry 128 in Dubai? I think this may be Asmussen's way of getting Churchill to thow another $5 million from their "special fund" to get him to come. I mean, they were already throwing extra money and he was already coming so why not try to get more? Especially with that big money offer from Suffolk, which by the way, will never happen now.

Merlinsky 06-07-2008 07:27 PM

I can't figure out why a)they carry 126 in the TC and that's not a problem, and b) 2 lbs more is gonna dent his ability.....they're really just mad the other horses got so little in comparison and it's not their fault they're facing a reigning HOY and World Cup winner. He's done so well they get the break. He can carry the weight just fine. Asmussen needs to grow up and take a shot. And I though Frankel was whiney about weight. Not that it's something to crow about in terms of weight-carrying but they won't give him 130 plus out of fear and that's not right. Tracks shouldn't be bullied with a 'I'm gonna take my horse and go home' when they're trying to do what the conditions call for and handicap the bloody race. That's their job.

Cannon Shell 06-07-2008 07:36 PM

It is just laughable that they want to call the horse one of the alltime greats and yet are afraid to carry 128 against a bunch of washed up horses or bums. it would be one thing to complain about the weight if he was giving a lot to another top horse but this bunch? you could make a case that they weighted him too low.

Danzig 06-07-2008 07:38 PM

it's somewhat gratifying to me, since i don't think he's all that and a bag of potato chips anyway. he's just miles the best because he's the only halfway decent horse out there-much like the one who finished last at belmont today.

i'd imagine it's something besides just the weight. maybe curlin isn't quite 'there' yet, and they don't want to say he's not 100%. but how often is a horse absolutely perfect?

Amen. I'm figuring he's gonna go to try to get his mitts on the earnings record unless they're really afraid he won't win it. Every quarter of a million counts. That's really what they're pointing to.

Like that record proves anything anyway. hell with Sheikh Mo upping the ante in Dubai that record wont last long anyway.

It's been beaten internationally correct? By the Japanese and their insanely large purses for J-breds? The record would be for Americans and seems like it means you have to run at 4 to have a shot at it. At the rate they're going it's actually gonna become less and less likely. Remember how much of Curlin's money came at 3 (he didn't just get the DWC to have a shot at breaking it) and he had to get it by lasting through the entire TC and winning the BCC.

this is crazy, he is easily the 1 or 2 in the world, he should win next sat. for fun.........but if i were his connections i would do this with him, have some fun with him... i would take this route.

suburban...
whitney....
turf classic....
arc...
now if he ran that table, you could consider him a all time great.

Assman knows if he cries wolf, the execs at CHD will tighten up Huffman and curlin will be carrying 108 instead of 128. They may have to give the mount to Johnny McKee. HAHA
