Breaking news.....

According to John Pricci, there will be a 11am press conference at Belmont to announce that BIG Brown has a quarter crack. This was just told by Pricci on the Capital OTB show Trackfacts.

I guess that's why he supposedly didn't come to the track yesterday morning.

Big Brown has Quarter Crack

According to John Pricci on Capital OTB, there will be a news conference shortly about BB having quarter crack. He said this does not mean he is out of the Belmont.

Do you really think John Pricci deserves being mistaken for John Piesen?

Just wanted to see if you were paying attention.

Tom just mentioned a press conference, but that is all, I can't get immediate confirmation on the issue...

This article is from a couple of weeks ago:

Did they say what hoof it was in? Just a vibe, but I'm guessing the right front.

If he has one then you are kidding yourself if you think they will run him at 12f against somebody like Casino Drive.

He is worth too much and I am sure insurance companies will step in here. He will be retired if it is true.

Travis Stone 05-25-2008 09:31 AM

If true, it's hard to imagine the folks at Three Chimney's would be okay with him running with some issues. Unless its extremely minor... but even then... we're talking about a lot of $.

I doubt they'll retire him, but he'll probably need some time off.

And LOL at Casino Drive.

Danzig 05-25-2008 09:36 AM

hmmm.
so much for dutrows talk about wishing the belmont was right now, since his horse isn't as ready as he thought.
they say it doesn't mean he's out, but can he make it with one?

Travis Stone 05-25-2008 09:37 AM

John Pricci just confirmed the press conference, he said he received a phone call 25 minutes before going on the air...

fpsoxfan 05-25-2008 09:38 AM

What exactly is a quarter crack?

Antitrust32 05-25-2008 09:39 AM

What would they have to do?? Run him in bar shoe's or something like Unbridled's Song in the Kentucky Derby??

A horse prone to quarter cracks with
a genetic backgroud that shows a disposition
towards quarter cracks.

So we got to get those genes passed on
because he is worth too much...

Houston we have a market problem.

Against this group, he could probably win on two feet but I'd doubt they'd risk running him.

supposedly three chimneys has no say til he retires...but perhaps they could suggest things?
he missed months of racing due to his feet between his 2 yo debut and his first at three, and i think it was due to his feet that they were keeping him on the turf-that and the fact he could run so well on it.

chuck, he ran down behind pretty badly in the preakness-i remember your comment about it being significant that he bled through his bandages the way he did. could that be caused by him having sore feet, and perhaps changing his style of running? i don't know if there's a correlation between the two or not, which is why i'm asking.

Antitrust32 05-25-2008 09:41 AM

Also, what are the risks?? Besides running poorly can he hurt himself bad by running with a quarter??
