MLB Replay?

Looks like they will be testing it in the Fall league. I know they are trying to shorten the games, but what do you think...good idea or bad? When should it be used? Restrictions?, penalty for lost challenge ( no T/Os to take like in NFL)?, only inistigated from above or can manager challenge?

I think it should be used for self sanity.

Like---"Oh my God!!...did Here'sJhonny really miss that ball?? Oh I can't believe that."

Or....

"Dom Delouise' arm can't be that bad....can it??"

i'm old school baseball - don't like the replay idea. missed/wrong calls are a part of the human element. i really don't like it in football either, i think it absolutely ruins the flow of the game more than all of the commercial TOs.

I personally do not like the idea of replay. But if MLB does decide to use it, I think it should be for questionable HR calls only. Everything else would disrupt the game too much. Games take too long as it is. You can't look at every close call.
Why don't they consider using 6 umpires all season, like they do in the playoffs?

horseofcourse 05-23-2008 09:47 AM

I'd use it every pitch, I think the goal should be 5 hour games and to see which hand Wedgie scrathes his face with.

Yeah, Mortimer think about what Scav said. As horrid as he has been this year, J-honey has double the home run total of Hafner and Martinez combined. Derrek Shelton has formed a well-oiled offensive machine here. Trot Nixon was Ruthian compared to this group.

I caught the 7th or 8th inning on the ratty-o last night......The rocket armed left fielder inning. Our announcer sounded just like Bob Uecker.

" And there's a solid single to left......runner from second trying to score...Dellucci's throw isn't even close....and the batter goes to second. Unbelievable.

Next batter also singles to left............and Dellucci isn't going to throw anybody out on this one."

It was pretty pathetic.

I feel bad for their starting pitchers. All quality for the most part and even in the 45 or whatever inning scoreless streak, they couldn't win every game. As soon as they give up their 2nd run, it's an automatic L for them. I mean, really, how much worse could their offense be playing Gutierrez and Francisco every single game in the outfield?? I guess Wedge thinks it's better to play an outfielder who can't hit, run, throw, or field...all 4 rather than one who can at least do 3 of them.

BANG-O!!!

Excellent work...really was.

Wedge is such a fool. In times like this with the drop dead starting pitching and pathetic hitting you must put out the best defense possible since no one is hitting.

But noooooOOOOOOO.

This is what I mean by Wedges ability to see what no one else can. You have a young player like FG who never had a problem with right hand pitching in the minors.....and platoon him with ....NIXON.

And you make a guy having trouble with right hand major league pitching. You will never know what you have in FG unless you keep playing him....like he does Hafner,Blake,Garko,et al. Did you know their opposite hand pitching batting averages are just as bad as FG's?

I give you my Here'sJhonny face:

AAAND................last year Dellucci was horrible...we already had found that out about Michaels. So Dellucci gets a boo-boo....we sign Lofton....Lofton becomes the everyday left fielder.

SSSSSSO....new year...we cut Lofton....we have Fransisco ready to go....the AAA batting champion......and so we start the season with him in the minors and the dynamic duo of Dellucci/Michaels in left field.

My Here'sJhonny face:

I don't understand their aversion to young players. Never have. In 2005, the plan was to have Sizemore start the year in Buffalo and play Juan Gonzalez, 45 years past his prime. Grady ain't perfect by any means (throwing arm, K's but does many things well), but to think he wasn't a better MLB player at that point before the 2005 season than Juan gone was insanity. a Juan Gone injury bailed them out and Sizemore had a great year. Carmona targeted for Buffalo last year...bailed them out TWICE!! Cabrera bailed them out last year. They started winning last year when they finally went with Gutierrez as the fulltime RF late. Now Aaron Laffey is again proving himself as he did last year as well. I wonder what his fate will be when Westbrooks comes back. He is better than Paul Byrd however.

It's a mystery. It's not like young players have failed them.

Kenny Lofton is available

That should signal how bad Michaels was.

SCUDSBROTHER 05-24-2008 07:23 AM

I'd like to see it done like in football. Give each manager 1 review a game. So, there would be some penalty for being wrong when you question a call. Bring some strategy into it. 2 bad calls by same ump ( in one game) would result in him being put into a wood chipper.

Fargo should be part of the replay process
